State school students present productions from the MídiaCOP project in Belém
Initiative prepares young people from 11 schools to act as 'Amazonian reporters' in the coverage of COP30, strengthening youth leadership in the climate agenda
The Center for Innovation and Sustainability in Basic Education (Ciseb), from the State Department of Education of Pará (Seduc), hosted on Tuesday (16), in Belém, the closing of the first phase of the in-person stage of the project "MídiaCOP – Training for Media and Environmental Education in the Amazon." The initiative trained students from 11 state schools in the capital of Pará in media education and communication techniques, through four workshops held between August and September.

The highlight of the ceremony was the exhibition of the audiovisual reports produced by the students, the result of a process that combined theory and practice on topics related to the Amazon and climate change. "MídiaCOP seeks to give voice to students from the Amazon and the northern states of Brazil, through the media, to talk about their region. In this stage, we had 55 students trained in media education, in identifying relevant information and in producing content about the Amazon, climate issues, and COP30," explained Professor Lorena Rodrigues, the project's trainer in Belém, alongside teachers Aderilson Parente and Kleber Leite.
She mentioned that the next stages of the project will focus on improvement. "The idea is for these students to continue producing reports and journalistic content to enhance their productions and thus be prepared to act as reporters in the coverage of COP30 in November, putting into practice everything they learned in this stage," she emphasized.
The training consisted of workshops on media education, critical analysis of journalistic coverage, and the role of the Amazon in the climate agenda. The young people learned reporting techniques, journalistic concepts, text and script production, and advanced to the audiovisual stage.

For student Kamilly Vitória, from the 1st year of high school at the State School Jarbas Passarinho, in the Marco neighborhood, the experience was transformative. "I learned about communication, conscious media use, and how to develop content. It was challenging but very cool. We had a good result and want to keep learning and improving," she said.
Liandra Silva, an 8th-grade student at the State School Professora Anésia, in the Souza neighborhood, reported the personal impact of the project. "MídiaCOP helped me in many ways, like speaking in public. At first, I stuttered and got nervous. Today I can express myself better, I learned to make reports, interviews, and scripts. It was very good for me," she shared.

MídiaCOP is an initiative of the Social Communication Secretariat of the Presidency of the Republic (Secom) and the Ministry of Education (MEC), in cooperation with France, executed by the Federal University of Mato Grosso do Sul (UFMS), through the Agency for Digital and Distance Education (Agead/UFMS), in partnership with the Centre de Liaison de l’Enseignement et des Médias d’Information (Clémi) from France.
