The State University of Pará (Uepa), through the Extension Project Rabisquei, promotes starting next Thursday, the 18th, the exhibition that unites poetry and illustration in the municipality of Paragominas. The show will be held at the Gláucia Lygia Rabello Leal Cultural Space, of the Municipal Secretary of Culture, Tourism, Sports, and Leisure, and will remain open to the public until September 25, with free admission.

The initiative was approved in the internal Proex-PAC announcement and aims to bring literature closer to visual language, demonstrating how illustrations and comics contribute to the aesthetic, symbolic, and interpretative formation of readers. In the exhibition, four local poets — Reni, Diogo, Jorleide, and Jorginho — have their verses retold through visual compositions created by students from the Design course at Uepa's Campus VI.

Coordinated by Professor Larissa Buenaño, the project involved four students from the course. Sam Abreu and Emanuelle Ribeiro were responsible for the illustrations, while Gustavo Miranda and Heloisa Nascimento worked on the assembly of the exhibition. All creations were made manually. “In times of AI-generated images, all illustrations were hand-drawn and then digitized, so it was something done with a lot of dedication, and the result, as the coordinator of this project, was beautiful illustrations and comics! I am very proud of them!” celebrates Larissa.

According to Professor Larissa, the process was developed in stages, which included research on local poets, interviews, and selection of the poems to be illustrated. “Each author received a predominant color, with the aesthetic goal of differentiating their productions and making the exhibition visually striking. Illustrating verses is a challenge, as it requires responsibility to offer new ways of interpreting the texts,” she highlighted.

The opening will feature the presence of the poets, who will recite their verses, strengthening the interaction between authors, students, and the public. “The exhibition values local poetry and literature, stimulates reading, and broadens the dissemination of cultural productions from Paragominas. It was an enriching experience for both the students and the authors involved, and now it extends to the community,” emphasized the coordinator.
