Residents and visitors of Salinópolis, in the northeastern region of Pará, gained a new option for leisure and contemplation with the delivery of the second urban walkway providing access to Maçarico Beach on Thursday (24). The work of the Government of Pará represents another advance for sustainable tourism in the municipality, which has an estimated population of over 48,000 inhabitants. The new public facility further highlights the natural attractions of the city on the Atlantic coast of Pará, strengthens the tourism sector, and generates jobs and income.

During the delivery ceremony, technicians from the Institute for Forest Development and Biodiversity (Ideflor-Bio) promoted an environmental awareness action with the community and tourists. The initiative reinforced the importance of conserving coastal ecosystems and presented the work that the agency develops in areas such as Atalaia Beach, especially in the section known as Ponta da Sofia, where sea turtles nest.

At Ponta da Sofia, Ideflor-Bio implemented, based on a recommendation from the Public Ministry of the State of Pará (MPPA) and a decision ratified by the Court of Justice of Pará (TJPA), a blockade for motorized vehicles. This measure aims to protect biodiversity and reduce the impacts on marine turtle nests, which are increasingly threatened by human pressure. Technicians from the agency remain at the resort throughout the month of July, guiding visitors about protected species and conducting educational visits to the nests located near the Atalaia Natural Monument.

“We talked about the importance of the Conservation Unit and invited people to visit our post at Atalaia Beach. Most are surprised to learn that there are sea turtles nesting there. Our job is to ensure they leave knowing a little more about everyone's role in preserving the Pará coastline,” said Ideflor-Bio environmental management technician, Lorena Lisboa.

Eco kits - As part of the action, Ideflor-Bio distributed eco kits to visitors of the Maçarico Beach walkway. The material included eco bags, reusable cups, visors, and playful and educational pamphlets with information about coastal fauna and environmental preservation. The proposal is to encourage sustainable practices during the high season and consolidate environmental awareness as a permanent value in the region.

Governor Helder Barbalho and Vice Governor Hana Ghassan also highlighted the work developed by Ideflor-Bio. They stated that they watched on television the recent release of 70 turtles in the region. “The vice governor congratulated the Ideflor-Bio team and said she wishes to be present at the next release. It is a recognition that gives us even more motivation to continue this work of protecting nature,” said the director of Management and Monitoring of Conservation Units of the Institute, Ellivelton Carvalho.

The director of Ideflor-Bio also emphasizes that in this context, the integrated action between government, society, and institutions like Ideflor-Bio remains fundamental to ensure the balance between public use and conservation of natural resources.
