Semas participates in the Co-Creation Workshop for Sustainable Livestock in Altamira
The event brought together public and private institutions to discuss traceability strategies and the requalification of beef production in Pará

The State Secretariat for the Environment, Climate and Sustainability (Semas) participated in the Co-Creation Workshop for Sustainable Livestock in Transamazon and Xingu, held on July 22 and 23 in the municipality of Altamira. The meeting aimed to promote dialogue and build strategies for the implementation of the Sustainable Livestock Program of the State of Pará.
The event was promoted by the Ministry of Agriculture (Mapa) in partnership with GIZ (German International Cooperation Agency), bringing together representatives from the Agricultural Defense Agency of the State of Pará (Adepará), the Secretariat of Agricultural Development and Fisheries (Sedap), the Technical Assistance and Rural Extension Company (Emater), as well as representatives from the private sector, rural unions, and organizations such as TNC and the company JBS.
Advances in listening and integrated planning
“The active listening promoted in the workshop enabled important steps for the productive requalification process, which will be considered in the implementation of the program,” highlighted Dominique Ferreira, manager of the Sustainable Livestock Program at Semas.

For Tamires Vasconcelos Tavares Mendes, program coordinator, the meeting reinforces the articulation between various sectors. “The event provided a qualified space for exchanging experiences, reflections, and important articulations around the challenges and opportunities regarding sustainable livestock in the region. It demonstrates the strength of the environmental agenda in our state and the strengthening of integrated and replicable solutions,” she stated.
Commercial requalification and traceability
Led by Semas, the Sustainable Livestock Program of Pará was launched during COP 28 in Dubai and is the largest individual traceability initiative in Brazil. The proposal is to promote a new livestock sector in the state, reconciling economic development and environmental regularization.
The commercial requalification, one of the program's pillars, allows producers with areas in the recovery process to return to the formal meat market, provided they commit to environmental regularization until they join the Environmental Regularization Program (PRA).

“This measure was developed as part of a commitment made with the Federal Public Ministry (MPF), and we are sure that to achieve our goals, we must not leave any producer behind. The requalification anticipates a market condition and makes Pará a pioneering state in this process,” stated the Secretary of the Environment, Raul Protazio Romão.
To join the requalification process, producers must have a Rural Environmental Registry (CAR) and prove the isolation of deforested areas after July 22, 2008, allowing the start of forest regeneration. The entire process is 100% digital and allows monitoring by the producers themselves.
