In an interactive action, HOL promotes education on hospital safety

Activities with games and playful activities mark a campaign that creatively reinforces safety guidelines in patient care

With a playful and educational touch, the Ophir Loyola Hospital (HOL) promoted the April Patient Safety campaign, involving patients, companions, and staff in interactive activities such as guessing games, memory games, quizzes, and even the traditional fishing game. The action, organized by the institution's multidisciplinary team, aimed to reinforce, in a light and participatory way, the guidelines and goals for safer and higher quality care.

This year, the campaign brought the theme "More Access and Integrated Care," focusing on improving internal communication — among hospital team members — and external communication, involving patients and families. Despite the emphasis on communication, hospital safety at HOL is anchored in six essential goals that ensure excellence in care and promote patient well-being.

“Here at HOL, we have already updated our goals to ensure the best in health safety. We have established six pillars that guide the relationship between the team and the patients,” explained Dr. Alessandra Leal, Patient Safety and Quality Advisor at the hospital. “They are: correct identification of patients; effective communication among professionals and with patients; safety in the prescription and administration of medications; performing surgeries on the correct sites and patients; infection prevention through proper hygiene; and reduction of falls and pressure injuries,” she detailed.

The Hospital Infection Control Advisor, Patrícia Miranda, highlighted the importance of these practices for oncology patients. “Our patients already have low immunity, so care with devices such as probes and catheters is essential. And, as simple as it may seem, hand hygiene is a powerful measure that cannot be missing in any hospital,” she warned.

During the campaign, the multidisciplinary team divided into booths in the institution's entrance hall, where they addressed the topics with dynamism and engagement. The coordinator of the Nursing Support Center, Andrezza Mota, was responsible for the booth on effective communication in the hospital environment.

“It is essential that we, health professionals, communicate clearly and objectively, both among ourselves and with patients. Addressing this topic in a relaxed manner, as we did here, is very rewarding. It makes learning lighter and more engaging,” stated Andrezza.

Among the participants in the action was Mayara Lourido, head of the Nursing Division at HOL, who participated in the educational games conducted by the team. “Through playfulness, animation, and games, learning becomes more enjoyable. Effective communication is essential in nursing. Without it, there is no safe exchange of information, nor guarantee of quality care,” concluded the manager.
