Teatro Margarida Schivasappa hosts meeting of the 'Women of Brazil Group' at COP30
The event brought together various authorities to discuss female leadership in the climate agenda
The Teatro Margarida Schivasappa, in Belém, hosted the meeting of the "Women of Brazil Group" during the COP30 program on the morning of this Friday (14). The event, dedicated to the debate on female empowerment and leadership in the climate agenda, brought together the group's president, Luiza Helena Trajano (Magazine Luiza); the Minister of Culture, Margareth Menezes; and the Secretary of State for Culture of Pará, Ursula Vidal, in addition to various female leaders from across the country.
Founded in 2013 by 40 women committed to mobilizing society for improvements in Brazil, the "Women of Brazil Group" aims to stimulate female participation in the construction of public policies and actions that reduce gender, race, and social condition inequalities. Today, it is one of the largest voluntary organizations in Brazil.
During her speech, businesswoman Luiza Helena Trajano emphasized the institution's commitment to following the developments of COP30 and turning discussions into concrete actions. “We will follow and help make it happen. We don’t want a new COP in ten, twenty, or thirty years to repeat everything that is being discussed now. We will follow the pillars debated and be there to help make it happen. This is the role of the Women of Brazil Group,” she stressed.
In the audience, travel consultant Roberta Ribeiro, 41, who came from Ananindeua specifically to participate in the meeting, highlighted the relevance of the North region hosting events like this.
“This is a very important moment for our State. It is the chance to show Pará's culture to Brazil and the world. Here we see women from different areas talking about politics, profession, and entrepreneurship. The one leading this movement is a great entrepreneur who inspires us and gives us the confidence to show who we really are,” she emphasized.
The Minister of Culture, Margareth Menezes, also emphasized the symbolism of COP30 being held in the Amazon. “The 'Women of Brazil Group' has a great strength and representation. Participating in COP30 is essential so that no one is left out of this necessary movement to reverse the effects of climate change. The COP in Belém has a wonderful symbolism. President Lula was visionary, and we are seeing people from all over the world recognizing the importance of this agenda for all humanity,” she argued.
The Secretary of Culture of Pará, Ursula Vidal, reinforced the role of Amazonian women in protecting biodiversity and building a sustainable economy. “The Women’s COP meeting is already consolidating as one of the most sought-after events, with over a thousand women registered. Here we discuss health, the environment, climate justice, and female leadership in public policies. The women of the Amazon — quilombolas, riverside dwellers, indigenous, family farmers — keep biodiversity alive and teach us, through traditional knowledge, to produce social progress in an integrated and balanced way with nature. Our role is fundamental in building a green, sustainable, inclusive, and just economy,” she noted.
The event at Teatro Margarida Schivasappa reinforced the importance of including the female perspective in climate debates and highlighted the leadership of Brazilian women — especially Amazonian women — in defending the environment and promoting social justice.
