Civil Defense conducts test of the natural disaster alert system in Pará
The population will receive audio and visual messages in a scheduled simulation on how to protect themselves in cases of floods, heavy rains, and other risks

The Military Fire Brigade of Pará and the State Coordination of Protection and Civil Defense inform that next Saturday (20), at 3 PM, a test of the Civil Defense Alert (DCA), a national emergency message sending system via mobile phone, will be conducted.
During the simulation, residents of Belém, Paragominas, Tucuruí, and Parauapebas will receive alerts for free on their mobile phones compatible with 4G or 5G technology, without the need for registration.
The messages will arrive in audio and visual format, with information about natural disaster risks, such as heavy rains, floods, storms, and landslides, as well as guidance on how to act to protect themselves.
The State Civil Defense notes that the system has two levels of alert: extreme, when there is an immediate risk and the population must act immediately, and severe, when there is time for preparation.

The 'Civil Defense Alert' test issued more than 400 alerts by September 2025, mainly related to storm and landslide risks, according to the National Civil Defense Secretariat. States like Santa Catarina, São Paulo, and Minas Gerais lead in the number of records.
Regarding the simulation, the general commander of the Military Fire Brigade of Pará (CBMPA), Colonel QOBM Jayme de Aviz Benjó, emphasized that the new system aims to enhance prevention capacity in the territory of Pará.
“The goal of the Civil Defense Alert, which uses mobile phone transmission technology, is to complement other emergency alert tools available for the prevention and mitigation of impacts caused by natural disasters, notifying and guiding people in areas with an imminent risk of flooding, flash floods, landslides, storms, hail, among others. The content of the alerts is the responsibility of the state Civil Defense, which shares and reinforces a new tool to the Civil Defense system of the State of Pará,” he highlighted.
In addition to the DCA, alerts can also be issued through other channels, such as SMS, cable TV, WhatsApp, Telegram, sound signals, Instagram, and Google Public Alerts, reinforcing the integration between different communication tools to save lives and reduce risks in emergency situations.

In Pará, from 2019 to today, 1,258 alerts have been issued via SMS by the Public Alert Dissemination Interface (IDAP), including records from Cenad and the Civil Defense of Parauapebas. Only through the State Civil Defense Coordination (Cedec) there were 944 alerts, numbers that highlight the constant operation of the prevention system.
The state government maintains a monitoring room of the CBMPA, equipped for analyzing climatic and environmental variables, such as heat spots, relative humidity, rainfall indices, and other aspects that allow predicting hydrological threats (floods, flash floods, inundations) and climatological threats (droughts, wildfires, low humidity). Based on this information, the duty team evaluates the risks and, if necessary, issues specific alerts for the communities that may be impacted.
