Students visit the Serra dos Martírios/Andorinhas State Park and Araguaia APA
The program promoted by Ideflor-Bio aimed to bring students closer to environmental management, which seeks the preservation of the natural and cultural heritage of Araguaia
About 30 students from Martins Afonso de Souza School, in Vila Fortaleza neighborhood, in São Geraldo do Araguaia, in southeastern Pará, participated in an educational activity promoted by the Institute of Forest Development and Biodiversity (Ideflor-Bio). They visited the headquarters of the Araguaia Administrative Region Management (GRA) and took tours of the attractions of the Serra dos Martírios/Andorinhas State Park and the Araguaia Environmental Protection Area (APA), with the participation of a guide.

The group was welcomed by the technical team of the Institute, which presented the structure of the base, where the Photographic Memorial of the Serra das Andorinhas is located, and also the place responsible for the management of two important conservation units in the region. The program aimed to bring students closer to the reality of environmental management, showing how Ideflor-Bio acts in preserving the natural and cultural heritage of the region.
After getting to know the space, the students proceeded to a walk along the trail of Quarta Queda, one of the most visited points of the Serra dos Martírios/Andorinhas Park. During the activity, they had direct contact with the local biodiversity and were able to learn, in practice, the importance of preserving ecosystems and the sustainable use of natural resources.

The visit was supported by the Gaav Trail Guides Group, which assisted in monitoring and provided information about the natural and historical riches of the region. The participation of the Group contributed to making the experience even more interactive and enriching.

Experience - Professor Almezir Lopes, responsible for accompanying the class, highlighted the relevance of the activity for the children's education. “It was a unique experience. We had the opportunity to visit a tourist and historical site of the Serra dos Martírios/Andorinhas State Park, the Quarta Queda, in addition to attending an educational lecture at the Ideflor-Bio headquarters. I can only thank all the partners and supporters who made this activity possible. These moments help awaken environmental awareness from an early age and strengthen the ties between school, community, and nature,” he stated.
In addition to providing leisure and learning, the activity reinforced Ideflor-Bio's mission to integrate communities into the environmental management process, bringing technical work closer to the daily lives of local populations. Direct contact with nature and experiences in protected areas contribute to strengthening the cultural and environmental identity of the region.
The manager of the Araguaia Administrative Region of Ideflor-Bio, Laís Mercedes, also emphasized the importance of the connection between the institution and the school community. “Welcoming these students is a way to plant seeds of care and respect for nature. Children are multipliers of this knowledge, taking home what they learned and inspiring their families. Our goal is for experiences like this to show the value of conservation and awaken a sense of belonging regarding our conservation units,” said Laís Mercedes.
