The State Secretariat for the Environment, Climate and Sustainability (Semas) held, from August 25 to 29, training in Environmental Education aimed at environmental technicians in the municipalities of Baião and Mocajuba, in northeastern Pará. The action addressed relevant topics such as policies for mitigating the effects of climate change, permaculture (a planning and practice system that integrates agriculture, land use, and sustainable ways of life), multi-year planning, Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and tactical and operational strategic planning for environmental conservation.

The actions are guided by the aim of spreading environmental education in Pará in accordance with the principles established by legislation regarding the principles and instruments of environmental management, in order to propose policies for the formulation, planning, coordination, and articulation of plans, programs, projects, and actions.

Policies for mitigating the effects of climate change were addressed in the training

“The activities were conducted by the Environmental Education Coordination of Semas and were positively highlighted by the participants, who reinforced the relevance of the meeting for the technical and institutional strengthening of the municipalities. The initiative reinforces the commitment of the state government, through Semas, to promote sustainable development and integration between the state, municipalities, and civil society,” informed Andreia Monteiro, Environmental Education coordinator of Semas.

Quality of life - Actions by the Government of Pará related to sustainability and decentralized environmental management were also discussed. These actions are essential for environmental management in Pará, helping to understand the processes that assist individuals and the community in building values aimed at environmental conservation, which are important for promoting quality of life and sustainability.

Kailani Monteiro, a student of the Chemistry course at the Federal University of Pará (UFPA), said she had the opportunity to participate in the Environmental Education training, which is important for her formation as a professional and citizen.

“Without a doubt, it is a moment of great learning, of exchanging experiences, of important discussions, and being able to participate contributed a lot to my education. This training is forming Environmental Education multipliers capable of applying public policies, developing society for a better future, applying more sustainable practices, and raising awareness among the population. Having a space to talk about our regional and daily experiences shows that Environmental Education is also part of a local movement,” added Kailani Monteiro.

The activity brought together more than 25 participants, including professionals in the field, representatives from the Municipal Secretariat of the Environment (Semma), the State Secretariat of Family Agriculture (Seaf), and civil society, as well as technicians from the Environmental Management Center of the Mocajuba Works Secretariat.
