Tapajós Hospital concludes Golden August with a lecture on breastfeeding
The activity brought together mothers, health professionals, and reinforced the importance of breastfeeding for childhood development
The Regional Hospital of Tapajós (HRT), in Itaituba, in the southwest of Pará, concluded, on Thursday (28), the programming of Golden August, a month dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of breastfeeding. The action included lectures and practices aimed at mothers in the Neonatal ICU and the Kangaroo Unit, reinforcing the importance of exclusive breastfeeding for the healthy development of babies.
Among the participants was Gabrielle Vitória, 23, who came from the municipality of Novo Progresso, in the same region, to accompany her baby hospitalized in the Neonatal ICU. She shared that she previously believed that infant formula was the best resource to strengthen her child.
“In the lecture, I understood that the best food for my baby is breast milk. I really liked the initiative, which helps not only us as mothers but also our children,” she said emotionally.
The program was conducted by hospital professionals: the supervisor of the pediatric ICUs, Jocicleia Rodrigues; the nursing technician from the breast milk collection room, Sheila Cristina Batista Silva; and pediatric nurse Wewerton Andrade.
According to supervisor Jocicleia Rodrigues, the educational work further strengthens maternal and child assistance in a unit that is a reference for the entire region.
“This type of action is essential, especially in a hub hospital like the Regional Hospital of Tapajós. Providing information and support to mothers helps save lives and reduce long-term health complications,” she emphasized.
The activity was coordinated by humanization analyst Maria de Lurdes, who highlighted the unit's commitment to providing comprehensive care.
“Moments like this are part of the humanization of care. It’s not just about treating an illness, but about welcoming the mother, guiding her, and providing support so that she feels secure in this very important process of breastfeeding,” she stated.
The Regional Hospital of Tapajós is managed by the Social Institute Mais Saúde, in partnership with the State Department of Public Health (Sespa). The unit is part of the hospital network of the Government of Pará, focusing on expanding access to specialized health in strategic regions of the State, contributing to reducing inequalities and providing quality care closer to the population.
