The Government of Pará, through the State Secretariat for Environment, Climate and Sustainability (Semas), participated this week in the international launch of the book Regenerating Territories, Living Amazon and Sustainable Tourism, during the Seminar on Sustainable Tourism, held at Sesc Ver-o-Peso, in Belém. The initiative brought together local leaders, experts, representatives from communities and institutions to discuss strategies that integrate tourism, environmental regeneration, and socioeconomic development in the region.

Developed by the Aupaba Institute, with the collaboration of Semas and the Federal University of Pará (UFPA), the book was produced at the invitation of the Brazilian Embassy in Germany and proposes reflections on the role of tourism as a vector of bioeconomy in the Amazon, especially in the territory of Pará.

“The book is essential for reflections on tourism and bioeconomy in the Amazon, understanding the potential of tourism in the Pará region as an important vector of bioeconomy, based on its biocultural vocations and the awareness of environmental preservation,” highlighted Ágila Chaves Rodrigues, coordinator of Program and Project Management at Semas.

Tourism as a driver of bioeconomy

During the seminar, which precedes the discussions of the 30th United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP30), to be held in Belém in November 2025, panels were presented on strategic themes such as Tourism and Bioeconomy: Opportunities for Pará; Caring Tourism; Ethical models that prioritize communities and ecosystems; and Impactful Tourism Transformation, focusing on preparing the state as a global reference in regenerative tourism.

For the Deputy Secretary of Bioeconomy at Semas, Camille Bemerguy, sustainable tourism plays a fundamental role in valuing Amazonian territories. “Sustainable tourism and geographical indications are powerful tools to give visibility, value, and identity to our territories. Tourism, when well conducted, brings the world closer to the real Amazon — the one that enchants, welcomes, and teaches,” she stated.

Amazon Bioeconomy and Innovation Park
One of the highlights of the program was the presentation of advances in the implementation of the Amazon Bioeconomy and Innovation Park, an initiative of the Government of Pará linked to the Porto Futuro II project, in Belém. The space is being planned as a permanent showcase of Amazonian bioeconomy and will bring together, in one place, entrepreneurial projects, scientific research, and products developed from traditional knowledge and local biodiversity.

“The Park is a concrete response from Pará to the climate urgency and the commitment to a just transition. Our goal is to show that it is possible to combine economic development with environmental preservation, valuing local knowledge and promoting productive inclusion,” reinforced Camille Bemerguy.

Focusing on sustainability and income generation, the Park seeks to promote connections between traditional communities, the productive sector, academia, and investors, consolidating the state as a leader in Amazonian bioeconomy and an international reference in nature-based solutions.
