Focusing on promoting the well-being of educators, students, and other staff in the state education network, the State Department of Education (Seduc) started, this Friday (22), the training "Love Your Mind at School," aimed at strengthening care for mental health in the school environment. The course is a partnership with the Institute Love Your Mind and Itaú Social, directed at all education staff.

The training is promoted through the Educational Coexistence Advisory (ACE) and the Training Directorate (Difor), and addresses essential themes related to mental health and emotional development in the school context. Throughout the training, participants will have access to content and strategies to strengthen support and coexistence inside and outside the classroom.

"The training is super important for all education professionals who work, whether in teaching or non-teaching areas. This is because taking care of our mental health is taking care of our emotions, our thoughts, and our well-being. This is super important so that our teachers and our support staff in the school can have access to the body of knowledge to promote what we call emotional and social skills. In other words, emotional literacy. We have 862 professionals enrolled in this course, which is conducted in partnership with the Institute Love Your Mind. That is, 862 servers who said yes, I need to take care of my mind, I need to take care of my thoughts, I need to take care of my well-being to be able to contribute to the well-being of those I relate to within a network of support and welcome," said the Training Director (Difor), Raimundo Corrêa.

For the coordinator of the Educational Coexistence Advisory (ACE) and director of Diversity and Inclusion (DDI), Mário Augusto Almeida, the initiative strengthens the school community as a whole. "We generally tend to think that talking about mental health is actually talking about disorders and not about health, and the Coexistence Advisory works with a prevention system, so having a grasp on mental health allows you to recognize disorders in yourself and in others. To have adequate mental health, you need to be well, to be good with yourself in any field of your life, any field of action. Having this awareness and knowledge about mental health empowers the staff, and with that, they can replicate it to the students and families that make up the school community," he emphasized.

The inaugural class of the course was conducted by psychiatrist and neuroscientist, Rodrigo Bressan. According to him, it is essential to talk about mental health in the school environment. "Mental health topics have become one of the priorities of education today. They have always existed; 14% of young boys, adolescents, already had a mental disorder even before the pandemic. It seems that after the pandemic this has grown a lot, it has become very evident and is one of the greatest concerns of teachers. In this sense, the Institute Love Your Mind promotes literacy, an education on mental health topics. By studying this topic, we realized that teachers and educators are the ones who understand young people the most. They understand deeply, but not so much about mental health. By bringing mental health literacy, you equip all educators to deal with mental health issues, to identify situations early, and to also identify more difficult situations that need to be referred. When you understand these things and know how to handle them, you help people more and create a safer environment in the school," he pointed out.

The training journey continues until December 5, the date on which the presentation of the protocols developed during the course will take place, in addition to the celebration of the learnings acquired by the education servers.
