State delivers, through Seaster, social pedagogical garden to school in Marituba
Agreement with the MDS has already ensured the implementation of social gardens in Pará, in a project that includes collective activities for sustainable food production

The Government of Pará, through the State Secretariat for Social Assistance, Labor, Employment and Income (Seaster), is executing the project "Social Pedagogical Gardens in Pará", in accordance with the Ministry of Social Development (MDS). The program, established in 2022, aims to promote social and economic inclusion of families in situations of social vulnerability, as well as to implement the action in schools and Peace Factories. On Thursday (31), the Municipal Elementary School Laura Freire de Oliveira Falcão, in Marituba, received actions from the project.
With the broad participation of students, teachers, directors, and the municipal education secretary of Marituba, the managers, technicians, and the state secretary of Social Assistance, Labor, Employment and Income of Pará (Seaster) delivered the structure of the garden, with equipment and guidance for the school community to continue the program, benefiting all who frequent the space, as well as residents in the surrounding area.

“This initiative is fundamental for students to understand, in practice, sustainable food production, strengthening programs related to food and nutritional security for all, in addition to contributing to the guarantee of healthy and quality food. It is in our planning to implement more gardens through the agreement with the MDS, in several municipalities in Pará,” emphasized Inocencio Gasparim, head of Seaster.
Since the beginning of this agreement with the MDS, 15 social gardens have already been implemented in Pará. The project includes collective activities for sustainable food production, specifically tubers, vegetables, legumes, and fruits.

“The social garden project is a valuable pedagogical resource that offers numerous opportunities for practical and interdisciplinary learning, integrating various areas of knowledge such as biology, geography, mathematics, but above all, it is a project to increasingly integrate families into the school, providing support for the production, cultivation, and consumption of families through their own internal activities at school,” said Argemiro Seara, deputy secretary of education for the municipality of Marituba.
Implementation in progress
Three gardens have already been implemented and are in the finalization phase at the Peace Factory (UsiPaz) in Cabanagem. In addition, the project is being expanded to the municipal school network República de Emaús and the elderly shelter managed by Seaster, Lar da Providência.
The municipalities covered by the "Social Pedagogical Gardens" project are: Belém, Marituba, Ananindeua, and Santa Bárbara do Pará.
