Pará continues to stand out in the reduction of Intentional Violent Lethal Crimes (CVLI), which includes homicide, femicide, robbery followed by death, and bodily injury resulting in death. According to data from the 19th edition of the Brazilian Public Safety Yearbook, released by the Brazilian Public Safety Forum (FBSP) last Thursday (24), Pará was the 1st state in the North region and the 4th in the country that most reduced CVLI cases in 2024, behind only Bahia, Rio de Janeiro, and Rio Grande do Sul.

In absolute numbers, in the full year of 2023, there were 2,110 CVLI recorded, while in 2024 the number decreased to 1,884, ensuring the preservation of 226 lives in Pará. Regarding the CVLI rate per 100,000 inhabitants, the state went from 24.5 in 2023 to 21.6 in 2024.

The Secretary of Public Safety and Social Defense, Ualame Machado, emphasizes that since the beginning of the state administration in 2019, the government of Pará has prioritized investments in security and strengthening actions that increasingly contribute to the reduction of all types of crime in the Pará territory.

“Once again, the Public Safety Yearbook, produced by the Brazilian Public Safety Forum, analyzes data from all states of the federation and attests to the continuous reduction of indicators in Pará. For example, in violent lethal crimes, the state achieved a historic reduction in 2024, confirming Pará as the fourth state with the most significant reduction in CVLI,” said the head of Segup.

He added: “Another important point to highlight is that Pará remains out of the ranking of the 10 most violent cities in Brazil, as we have had before. We know that we need to improve and advance every day, but the results obtained demonstrate an integrated, hard, and ongoing work of the security forces with the visible presence of the police on the streets, in addition to precise action in qualified investigations, which have been helping us to reach and identify patterns of criminal organizations and dismantle these groups. This integrated work with the security forces, bringing together our three strategic pillars - investment, intelligence, and integration - has been effective and placing Pará among the states that have most systematically reduced crime in Brazil,” stated Ualame Machado.

Reduction of Intentional Violent Deaths

According to the data released, indicators of Intentional Violent Deaths (MVI) between the years 2023 and 2024 indicate Pará with a reduction of 7.3%, above the national average, recording 2,745 and 2,560 cases, respectively. Compared to the year 2018, which recorded 4,720 MVIs, the reduction reaches 46%. Regarding the MVI rate per 100,000 inhabitants, Pará went from 56.6 in 2018 to 31.9 in 2023 and 29.5 in 2024, according to data from the Yearbook.

Reduction of Violent Lethal Crimes against Civil and Military Police

The Public Safety Yearbook also confirmed a 32% reduction in Intentional Violent Lethal Crimes against Civil and Military Police, with 22 cases recorded in 2023 and 15 in 2024. The numbers keep Pará as the two states in the northern region with a reduction of CVLI against security agents.

Pará cities are out of the ranking of the 10 most violent cities in the country

The yearbook also created a ranking of the 10 most violent cities in 2024, with none from Pará on the list. It is also important to reiterate that other national studies, such as the publication of the Violence Atlas in 2019, showed that in 2017, two years before the current administration, 10 Pará municipalities were on the list of the most violent cities, such as: Altamira, Marituba, Marabá, Ananindeua, Tucuruí, Belém, Parauapebas, Paragominas, Tailândia, and Abaetetuba.

“We have already had several cities in the ranking of the most violent in Brazil, including being among the 10 most violent, and thanks to all the investment and strengthening of actions, we managed to remove Belém, Ananindeua, Altamira, and others that were already on this list. Currently, in the list with 20 municipalities, we still have one municipality that appears on this list, but it has been in higher positions. Marituba, for example, previously had a rate of 100.1 deaths per 100,000 inhabitants, reduced to 58.8, moving from 7th to 15th position in the ranking, just a step away from leaving this list,” noted Ualame Machado.
