Teams from the Administrative Region Management of Araguaia (GRA) of the Institute for Forest Development and Biodiversity (Ideflor-Bio) promoted an environmental education action on Thursday (25) at Praia da Gaivota, in São Geraldo do Araguaia, southeastern Pará. The activity took place at Acampamento Miron, a traditional vacation spot along the Araguaia River, and was supported by the Environmental Police Battalion (BPA).

The initiative aimed to raise awareness among visitors about the importance of caring for the environment, especially during the summer season when the flow of visitors in the region significantly increases. Currently, about 35 tents have been set up at the site since the end of June, with a planned stay until August 15.

Laís Mercedes is the manager of the Araguaia Administrative Region of Ideflor-Bio: "It is an environmental awareness action," she says.

The manager of the Araguaia Administrative Region of Ideflor-Bio, Laís Mercedes, highlights the work of environmental awareness among communities and tourists.

“Our goal is to sensitize people who visit the region about the importance of keeping the beaches clean, respecting the local fauna and flora, and strengthening environmental awareness from childhood to adulthood. Environmental education is a seed we plant today to ensure a sustainable future,” she stated.

Satisfaction - Miron Figueiredo, leader of the camp that bears his name and has been happening for over 15 years, celebrated the initiative. “This camp is a tradition of our community, it has been bringing families, friends, and tourists together here by the Araguaia for over 15 years. The presence of Ideflor and the environmental police with educational actions shows that it is possible to enjoy nature with respect and responsibility,” he said.

In addition to guidance on proper waste disposal and care for nature, the action involved the participation of children. Maria Eduarda, only 7 years old, left an important message: “Guys, take care of the beaches! Don’t throw trash on the ground, it harms the environment,” she warned.

The action is part of the Ideflor-Bio activity calendar during the Summer Operation 2025 and is part of the State Government's efforts to promote environmental preservation in areas with high foot traffic in the interior of Pará.
