On this Tuesday (8), the Institute of Forest Development and Biodiversity of Pará (Ideflor-Bio) began the cycle of lectures and environmental education activities that are part of the Summer Operation 2025 program in the municipality of Salinópolis, northeastern Pará. The meetings take place every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday in July, at the Gibi Saúde Ecobiblioteca, in the area known as Ponta da Sofia.

The first lecture of the day was conducted by the Institute's environmental analyst, Márcia Segtowich, who presented the 29 Conservation Units (UCs) currently managed by Ideflor-Bio. Márcia also explained the main programs and thematic axes that structure the Institute's actions in the management and monitoring of protected areas, also addressing topics such as the difference between integral protection units and sustainable use units.

“Environmental education is an essential tool for society to understand the value of conservation units and engage in their protection. Bringing this knowledge to the population is fundamental for strengthening our actions,” highlighted Márcia.

Sustainability - The second lecture was by the Secretary of the Environment of Salinópolis, Jéssica Karoline, who discussed the correct separation of recyclable and non-recyclable waste and the importance of conscious consumption. She also presented the Blue Exchange project, which will soon be implemented in the municipality. The initiative provides for the exchange of recyclable waste for a social currency, which can be used in partner establishments in the city.

“The Blue Exchange represents a promising future for Salinas. It is a creative way to promote recycling, generate income, and raise the environmental awareness of the population,” stated Jéssica Karoline.

Learning - Those who attended the event left inspired. Participant Shirley Alves shared how the experience was transformative. “We learn a lot that we never imagined. Seeing so many people working for a better environment gives us hope and the desire to do our part too.”

The actions of Ideflor-Bio continue throughout the week with new activities focused on environmental preservation, ecological education, and strengthening the management of UCs, always with a focus on community participation and valuing the Amazon territory. The lecture cycles at the Gibi Saúde Ecobiblioteca continue every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday in July, from 9:30 AM to 11 AM, addressing various themes such as: Education in Traffic and Environment, Ecotourism in Salinas, Traditional Fishing, among other topics.
