The Secretary of Economic Development, Mining and Energy (Sedeme), in partnership with the State Secretary of Articulation and Citizenship (Seac), is promoting workshops on floral arrangements, wool embroidery, and patchwork rugs at the Usinas da Paz (UsiPaz) in Marituba and Cabanagem, in the Metropolitan Region of Belém.

Floral Arrangement Workshop

The goal is to contribute to the socioeconomic development of the communities by providing income generation opportunities through the qualification of the participants. At the end of the workshops, everyone receives a certificate of completion, valuing their training and encouraging their insertion into the job market.

At UsiPaz Marituba, 10 spots were available for the Floral Arrangement workshop, which was held over four classes, concluding last Monday (9). Architect Roseliza Velloso led the practical activities, teaching basic and creative techniques for composing with natural and artificial flowers.

The participants learned about color harmony, material selection, assembly, preservation, and market trends. In addition to technical knowledge, the workshop also stimulated entrepreneurship, as the arrangements can be sold for events, decoration of spaces, and commemorative dates.

At UsiPaz Cabanagem, local residents participated in the wool embroidery and patchwork rug course, also taught by Roseliza. The initiative recovers traditional knowledge and encourages sustainability by reusing fabrics that would otherwise be discarded. Participants learned cutting and manual assembly techniques, transforming scraps into decorative and functional pieces.

In addition to stimulating creativity, the course offers an alternative for income generation, encourages the creative economy, and values artisanal work.

Housewife and first-time participant in a course at UsiPaz, Maria das Graças, 74, highlighted the importance of the initiative. “I feel very grateful to be learning something new. I’m really enjoying it and want to keep participating. I have the willingness and determination. I intend to invest in this and, who knows, start a new activity that could become an extra source of income,” she said.

Lidiane Campos, a resident of the Cabanagem neighborhood for ten years, also participates in the rug and embroidery course and has been attending the Usina since its inauguration. “I have taken courses in gastronomy, crochet, and sewing. Now I am dedicating myself to manual arts. I am loving the rug course and the wool embroidery. The workshop is very interesting, and the best part is that it doesn’t require the use of tools. In the rug course, the teacher teaches us how to set up a loom with cardboard, which allows us to put our creativity and skills into practice,” she explained.

The Secretary of Economic Development, Mining and Energy, Paulo Bengtson, emphasized that the offering of courses is essential to strengthen professional qualification and boost the creative economy. “These initiatives aim to equip participants with practical and updated knowledge, providing tools that expand their opportunities for insertion into the job market and encourage artisanal production as a means of economic and social development,” he stated.

According to him, Sedeme maintains a continuous training schedule under the Territories for Peace program, with more than ten courses planned, always to promote entrepreneurship and generate income for the communities.

Architect Roseliza Velloso also highlighted the importance of the action. “In the workshop, we not only teach techniques but also recover affective memories, promote income generation, and, above all, strengthen the self-esteem of the participants. Every moment here is a genuine exchange, filled with affection and creativity, where knowledge awakens the potential for socioeconomic transformation,” she emphasized.
