The Secretary of Economic Development, Mining and Energy of Pará (Sedeme) is offering another course within the Usina da Paz Project (UsiPaz). This time, the training offered is a fabric painting course, focusing on the customization of t-shirts and napkins, taught by visual artist and fashion designer Celeste Heitmann.

The activity involves the participation of ten residents from the vicinity of Usina da Paz Terra Firme and aims to strengthen the economic and social development of the community. The training combines technique, talent, and creativity, encouraging artisanal production, with the creation of exclusive pieces, opening new income opportunities for the community surrounding the Usina.

With a workload of eight hours, the course started on Tuesday afternoon (27) and will conclude on Wednesday (28), with the delivery of certificates to the participants.

This action is part of Sedeme's activity schedule within the Usina da Paz Project (UsiPaz), which is included in the Territories for Peace Program (TerPaz), executed by the Government of Pará, under the coordination of the Strategic Secretariat for Citizen Articulation (Seac).

According to Celeste Heitmann, the technique used during the classes involves the use of stencils (cut-out acetate templates), combined with artistic and creative techniques, allowing painting on fabrics with a wide variety of designs and shapes. "The method facilitates access to art and enables the customization of fabrics, making the creative process more accessible and versatile," explains Celeste.

During the classes, Heitmann presents the different brushes and their applications. "There are various types and sizes of brushes, each with a specific function. Generally, the larger ones are used to spread paint over large areas, while the fine ones are ideal for outlines and detailed finishes. In the course, I use a technique aimed at beginners, demonstrating materials, paints, and cut-out templates that facilitate painting and eliminate the need for freehand drawing," she states.

On this occasion, the visual artist shares fundamental tips, such as the proper fixation of the stencil on the fabric or surface, which can be done with adhesive tape, and the choice of the ideal fabric. "Cotton fabrics are the most recommended, as they facilitate paint adhesion. Synthetic fabrics are not recommended for this technique, as they require specific materials and methods to ensure a good result," explains Celeste.

Edilamar Saraiva, a retired military police officer and student of the course, highlighted the importance of fabric painting in her life: "I started making my first strokes in the art of painting at 14 years old and have never stopped since. Nowadays, I sell my pieces and am always looking for workshops and courses to further enhance my knowledge and apply new techniques to my work. Painting goes far beyond selling: it is a way to relax, relieve stress, and connect with myself. Participating in this course taught by Celeste has been wonderful. I am learning new techniques and I am sure I will leave here with a lot of knowledge."

Célia Nogueira works with handicrafts and says that the course helps her improve her professional performance

Célia Nogueira, 42 years old, who works with the sale of handicrafts, also shared her experience: "This course has been a great opportunity to enhance my work with handicrafts and fabric painting. The techniques taught by Professor Celeste Heitmann are valuable and I will apply them to my next pieces. Here, I am deepening my knowledge, from choosing the fabric, paints, and finishing techniques. Every detail makes a difference in the finishing of the pieces. The teacher teaches in a light and practical way, which motivates us to continue and sparks even more interest in learning. Usina da Paz has stood out for offering quality courses, providing transformative experiences," she emphasized.
