Public school professionals receive training in education for deaf students
This action is an opportunity for updating, exchanging experiences, and strengthening educational practices with professionals from Bilingual Schools in Libras

Teachers from the Center for Training Education Professionals and Support for Deaf People (CAS), from the State Department of Education (Seduc), participated in the "Meeting with CAS 2025", a training aimed at educators working with deaf students. The event was held on Tuesday (13) by the National Institute of Education of the Deaf (INES), through the Division of Technical Cooperation (DICTE), an institution linked to the Ministry of Education. The next meeting will take place on June 12, online.

The program included a series of discussions on the advances and challenges of education for deaf people in Brazil, especially after the enactment of Law No. 14.191/2021, which addresses bilingual education. In total, four meetings will be held. In this first meeting, the theme discussed was "Play and Literature in Deaf Education".
"The program was of great importance, with the participation of teachers from various schools in the state network and professionals in deaf education. The right of deaf children to access literature and inclusive play, fundamental for their inclusion, was discussed. The training was enriching and made everyone reflect on their practices, including with hearing children. I also highlight the partnership with the Municipal Secretary of Belém, which has been extraordinary," said Mário Augusto, director of Diversity and Inclusion at Seduc.

"These trainings allow us to understand both theoretically and practically what can contribute to our training, enabling us to apply this knowledge in our pedagogical practice. They help us break away from traditional methodologies and improve the use of innovative and challenging resources, in the face of an increasingly demanding and technological society," said Alan Leonardo Oliveira Ferreira, a teacher at the José Alves Maia State School.
The training, which represents an important opportunity for updating, exchanging experiences, and strengthening educational practices aimed at deaf students, also included the participation of professionals from Bilingual Schools in Libras, in addition to professionals from the Gabriel Lima Mendes Educational Inclusion Reference Center - CRIE, and the Municipal Secretary of Education of Belém.

"Participating in today's program (Tuesday) was important, as it highlighted the collaboration between State, Municipality, COEES, and CRIE. It was essential to understand the literacy process and the teaching of literature for deaf children, the methodologies and practices involved, in addition to the approach of the five fields of experience of the BNCC. We understand that the child needs continuous training and that the teacher must learn methodologies to connect with the deaf student. The child must experience stories through imagistic resources, puppets, and dolls, to facilitate the acquisition of Sign Language and Portuguese, starting from literacy," emphasizes Marcos Lopes, coordinator of the Educational Inclusion Reference Center of Semec in Belém.
