In the month dedicated to National Blood Donor Day, celebrated annually on November 25, the Ministry of Health (MS) commemorates the date with the theme: "Donate blood, donate hope: together we save lives." This message reflects the management of social responsibility and solidarity in state health units, which encourage blood donation among their employees, user companions, and local communities, aiming to contribute to the maintenance of the blood stock of the blood network in Pará.

Government bodies of the State, managed by the National Institute of Social and Human Development (INDSH), in partnership with the State Department of Public Health (Sespa), together, their blood donation campaigns, between 2024 and 2025, benefited 4,942 patients in the hospital network of Pará. This group includes the Jean Bitar Hospital (HJB), the Integrated Center for Inclusion and Rehabilitation (CIIR), the Specialized Center for Autism Spectrum Disorder (Cetea), all in Belém; the Metropolitan Hospital for Urgency and Emergency (HMUE), in Ananindeua; the General Hospital of Tailândia (HGT); the Public Regional Hospital of Caetés (HRPC), in Capanema; and the Public Regional Hospital of Marajó (HRPM), in Breves, in Marajó.

In all units, the campaigns and/or awareness actions on the theme are conducted by the Humanization Working Group (GTH) with support from other sectors.

In 2025, the commemorative campaign for the date concluded this Friday (28) and focused on the importance of the act of donating as a gesture of hope and solidarity, which has the power to save lives, encouraging both frequent donors and new volunteers to this act of love for others.

In Pará, the campaigns are carried out in partnership with the Hemotherapy and Hematology Center Foundation (Hemopa), which coordinates the state blood policy, in addition to promoting donor recruitment actions in partnership with a variety of bodies and entities.

CIIR/Cetea - "My feeling is one of gratitude and appreciation for the people who were able to donate blood for my daughter, who once needed it very much. So, I decided to give back by donating as well. I intend to continue donating whenever necessary to help save lives!" said Shirley Canafístula, 38, mother of a user with physical disabilities assisted by CIIR, who donated blood in the campaign of July this year, at CIIR.

The action was also carried out at Cetea, resulting in a total of 87 blood donations, benefiting around 350 patients in the state network. The action gathered 115 volunteers. The next campaign is scheduled for December 16, at CIIR and Cetea, in the same formats.

In 2024, the two promoted campaigns totaled 160 blood bags that benefited 640 patients.

HJB - The management of the Hospital concluded its annual blood donation campaign program for 2024, which benefited 1,016 patients hospitalized in the hospital network, resulting from 254 blood bag collections, considering that each donation helps up to four adult patients. In 2024, four campaigns were held.

In 2025, three campaigns were held, resulting in 421 blood bag collections, benefiting 1,684 patients hospitalized in the hospital network.

HRPC - The Hospital maintains a trajectory of successful actions in support of blood donation in the northeastern region of Pará. In 2024, the mobilization carried out at Natea Caetés gathered 85 volunteers and resulted in 77 collected bags, capable of benefiting 308 patients served in the state network. In 2025, the partnership was renewed during the programming related to World Blood Donor Day, on June 12 and 13, when about 50 volunteers participated in the mobilization.

Among the patients benefited by blood donations is Manoel Erli da Silva Luz, 37, a resident of Cachoeira do Piriá, about 75km from Capanema, a renal patient who received a transfusion during his treatment at HRPC. "We can hardly imagine how much a donation can save a life until we need it. I am very grateful to those who took some time to donate blood that saves lives. Grateful for the volunteers of the campaign and the attention of everyone here in the unit," he said.

HMUE - The culture of social responsibility, in favor of blood donation in the hospital unit, also strengthens the hospital network with campaigns that benefit patients who contribute to the blood stocks in Pará.

In 2024, a blood collection action was promoted that resulted in 41 blood donations benefiting 164 individuals. In 2025, two campaigns were organized: in January with 69 collections that saved 276 lives. This month, the solidarity action resulted in 26 donations that sum up to 104 more patients benefited.

"I started donating blood after experiencing the need of a dear and close person to me. In that situation, I could see how a single donation can make a difference for many people. It is a small gesture that can have a huge impact on the life of those in need and, moreover, it is an opportunity to give hope and comfort to those facing a difficult moment," commented regular blood donor, nursing technician Alessandra Lima.

HGT- In 2024, the General Hospital of Tailândia (HGT) carried out a campaign through the Hemonucleus of Abaetetuba (Henab). The action resulted in 101 blood bags collected, benefiting more than 400 patients hospitalized in the State hospital network. The mobilization also resulted in 12 new registrations for bone marrow donation.

HRPM - At the Regional Hospital of Marajó, health education actions are carried out to encourage blood donation among employees, users, their companions, and the local community through lectures and distribution of educational material, suggesting the performance of this solidarity act at the nearest collection service.

Management - For the Operational Director of INDSH North/Northeast, José Neto, the partnership of the units managed by the Institute in Pará with the Hemopa Foundation is already consolidated in the organizational culture, in favor of the life and well-being of patients who need blood transfusions to survive.

"Our mission to save lives goes beyond assistance. It is associated with encouraging blood donation that demonstrates civility, love for others, and reciprocity. It is vital to keep this practice active, as anyone can need it. The INDSH units in Pará, which carry out periodic campaigns, have already saved thousands of lives. The constancy and regularity of this act of solidarity are crucial. We must unite for life and donate a little of ourselves to save as many people as possible," emphasized the manager while congratulating and thanking all the blood donation volunteers in Pará and Brazil.
