Pará Pavilion, in the Green Zone, featured several Uepa panels

With more than ten panels in the Pará Pavilion, in the Green Zone, participation in the Blue Zone, the realization of the Global Amazon Integration Forum, and various cultural activities, the State University of Pará made its presence felt at the United Nations Climate Change Conference 2025.

Throughout the event days, researchers, faculty, and students from Uepa brought to the public discussions on biodiversity, biocultural heritage, multisectoral governance, circular economy, sustainable energy, industry, and transportation — topics that connect academic research, traditional knowledge, and public policies aimed at climate mitigation and adaptation in the Amazon.

The president of the Uepa Commission at COP30, Bianca Venturieri, defined the result of two weeks of work as "success!" She highlighted that the preparation began in 2024, when Uepa developed foreign language training actions for public security agents, with over 400 military police trained by Uepa in English, Spanish, and Mandarin courses, through other training developed in partnership with the Military Police.

"In 2025, we integrated all institutional events into the COP30 agenda, with the participation and involvement of the academic community. Our events prioritized collaboration with partner universities and the dissemination of research related to global warming and sustainable development. We gained space in the Blue Zone, in the Green Zone with 13 panels of scientific production from all our centers of education, health, and technology at Uepa," details Bianca.

The Integration Forum was held at Uepa's campus II in Belém, in parallel programming to COP30

Parallel to the COP30 event, at the City Park in Belém, Uepa's campus II hosted the programming of the Global Amazon Integration Forum: university dialogues for COP30. Regarding this programming, Venturieri points out that this was the greatest advancement, with the participation of more than 15 partner universities from the Brazilian Association of State and Municipal University Rectors (Abruem) and other Higher Education Institutions (IES) in the State.

"The Forum provided the creation of a Permanent Cooperation Network, which will strengthen the partnership between universities. The Forum will occur every two years, and the Permanent Working Group that was created will be responsible for coordinating and creating our research, teaching, and extension networks and organizing the next Global Amazon Forum," highlighted the professor.

Agenda in the Blue Zone and international partnerships

The rector of Uepa, Clay Chagas, represented the University in the Blue Zone, a restricted area of COP30, at the launch of the book "Contributions of the Scientific and Technological Community of the Amazon to the Action Agenda – Focus on S&T", with the presence of Gilmar Pereira da Silva (rector of UFPA), Olavo Noleto (Council for Sustainable Economic and Social Development – CDESS/Presidency of the Republic), Raimunda Monteiro (CDESS/Presidency of the Republic), Ima Vieira (MPEG/Finep – Scientific Council of COP30), pro tempore rector Janae Gonçalves (Ufra), Dorival da Costa (undersecretary of Science and Technology for the Amazon/MCTI), and Txai Surui (indigenous leader and CDESS advisor).

More than ten panels coordinated by Uepa were part of the Pará Pavilion programming

Uepa also signed a university agreement with Université de Guyane, whose delegation visited the rectory last Friday, the 14th. Throughout the week, the rector also joined the delegation of Governor Helder Barbalho, including the visit of California Governor Gavin Newsom to the Amazon Bioeconomy and Innovation Park, where an unprecedented agreement for forest protection was signed.

Activities beyond the City Park

In the second week of COP30, which began on the 17th, Uepa inaugurated the Expo Uepa, in Room 7 of the Amazon Bioeconomy and Innovation Park, with the exhibitions "Biodiversity and Bioculturality" and "Uepa Graduate Programs and Knowledge Construction in the Amazon".

In the Pará Pavilion - Municipalities, the Pará Center for Sciences and Planetarium (CCPPA) was present with the Mobile Planetarium, a traveling unit that offers immersive Astronomy sessions, in a dome that simulates the Universe, attracting hundreds of visitors for free.

Uepa's rector, Clay Chagas, fulfilled an agenda in the Blue Zone

At the Guamá Science and Technology Park (PCT Guamá), Uepa's Water Analysis Laboratory (Labágua) presented the results of the work developed on-site in the TechZone programming, an event that brought together researchers to present sustainable solutions for the Amazon.

Aiming to present to the world the cultural diversity of the Amazon, in unique and sustainable pieces, the State Government inaugurated the Museum of Pará Handicrafts (MAP), located in the São José Liberto Space, in the Jurunas neighborhood, to operate during COP30. Uepa collaborated in the realization of the project developed by the State Secretariat for Social Assistance, Labor, Employment, and Income (Seaster) and the State Secretariat for Economic Development, Mining, and Energy (Sedeme).

Cultural presentations, music and dance, from the university's extension projects, were also present in the agendas of the São José Liberto Space, City Park, and Global Amazon Integration Forum.

With participation in COP30, Uepa reinforced its vocation as a regional institution committed to applied research and dialogue with traditional communities, strengthening inter-institutional partnerships and increasing the visibility of scientific and cultural solutions from the Amazon in the global climate debate.
