State launches mobilization 'Join Us: a Pará free from Digital Harassment and Sexual Imposition'
Initiative integrates the 21 Days of Activism Campaign to end violence against women, aligned with the global mobilization of UN Women
The Government of Pará, through the State Secretariat for Women (Semu), launched, on Wednesday (20), the 2025 edition of the 21 Days of Activism Campaign to End Violence against Women, aligned with the global mobilization of UN Women "JOIN US". This year, the state government adopts the theme "JOIN US: a Pará free from Digital Harassment and Sexual Imposition", highlighting contemporary forms of violence that permeate women's lives both in the virtual environment and in public spaces.
The mobilization occurs in coordination with the Ministry of Women and brings together government agencies, justice system institutions, councils, social movements, and private partners.
This year's campaign highlights types of violence that have increased with the use of digital technologies. Virtual harassment, online stalking, sending unwanted content, non-consensual sharing of intimate images, and sexual imposition are practices that limit freedom, affect emotional health, and violate the fundamental rights of women and girls.
'Confronting violence is urgent and requires collective mobilization,' says secretary
For Semu, addressing these issues is essential to ensure that everyone can occupy digital or physical spaces safely. The State Secretary for Women, Paula Gomes, emphasizes that confronting these violences is urgent and requires collective mobilization.
“Violence against women is no longer restricted to the physical environment; it has invaded the screens of our cell phones and computers. The 'JOIN US' campaign is a call to collective action. We need to deconstruct the idea that the virtual environment is a lawless land and affirm that women have the right to live and move without fear. We want to ensure that all women and girls in Pará can be safe, online and offline,” highlighted Paula Gomes, State Secretary for Women of Pará.
Call 180: 20 years of support
The program also marks the 20th anniversary of Call 180, a national channel that has become a reference in welcoming and guiding women in situations of violence. In Pará, the service plays a central role in coordinating the protection network, especially during periods of high tourist flow or large events, such as COP30 (30th World Conference on Climate Change), when the service was integrated into emergency response actions.
Integrated actions across the territory
Coordinated by Semu, the campaign involves various state and municipal agencies and strategic partners, such as the State Council for Women's Rights, the Pará Network of Men for the End of Violence, and the Women's Policy Agencies of the municipalities. The coordination also includes public and private institutions that work with the projects Protocol Don't Be Silent, They with Them, and Education for Protection.
Throughout the 21 days, the Government of Pará promotes a series of activities, including thematic seminars, discussion circles, film screenings, the launch of educational videos, and actions at bus terminals and ports, aimed at confronting harassment and sexual imposition in mobility spaces.
Collective commitment
Reporting is a fundamental part of the prevention and combat process against violence. Below are the main support and reception channels: Call 180, Military Police at 190, virtual assistance from the Civil Police at (91) 98115-9181, Women's Ombudsman of SEMU (99317-1015), reception channel of the secretariat (98622-3721), and Specialized Police Stations for Women's Assistance, including the DEAM Virtual. The Cyber Crimes Division is also available for cases involving digital violence.
