The Tucuruí Lake Polyclinic is already part of the routine in the region and has established itself as a reference in renal patient care. With a modern structure, cutting-edge technology, and a specialized team in substitute renal therapy, the unit ensures safe, continuous, and humanized treatment for those who depend on hemodialysis.

Maria da Luz, a resident of Tucuruí in the Lake region, remembers well the years she had to travel 270km to Marabá, approximately four hours of travel, to receive hemodialysis treatment. Those were days that started early and only ended at night.

“It was difficult. We were worn out. Now, with the Tucuruí Polyclinic, everything has changed for the better. I do the treatment practically at home. I leave in the morning and am back by lunchtime,” says Maria da Luz, with the relief of someone who has quality of life.

The same feeling was shared by Limarcos de Freitas, a resident of Novo Repartimento in the Lake region, who previously had to go to Marabá or Belém to maintain his treatment. “The Polyclinic has come as a great improvement for us. We gained more comfort, more rest, and no longer have to face such exhausting trips. Here we have qualified professionals who care with dedication and love,” he explained.

The unit of the Government of Pará has 60 regular renal patients, who alternate in 30 hemodialysis machines, with 28 machines in the white room and two in the yellow room. Sessions take place from Monday to Saturday, in two shifts, providing adequate coverage for the regulated demand, ensuring safety for those who depend on the service.

Impacts

Since its inauguration in June 2022, the hemodialysis service at the Polyclinic has brought profound changes to the lives of patients in the region. One example is Maria Helena Bezerra, who even considered leaving the city due to lack of care. With the implementation of the service in Tucuruí, everything changed.

“I didn’t need to leave my home, my comfort, to undergo treatment. I come for dialysis and return to my residence. I am very grateful to the team and the management who treat us so well and provide all possible support for the treatment,” she emphasizes.

However, the care does not limit itself to the clinical procedure. It extends to prevention, emotional support, and educational actions that reach even the hemodialysis room. Cristina Silva, a resident of Tucuruí, highlights how this broader perspective makes a difference.

“I can only thank the team for the actions they carry out, such as the educational guidance and health information we receive right here. This makes us feel more at ease, well-informed, and confident during treatment,” she states.

At the Tucuruí Lake Polyclinic, the service brings hope for life to users. Since the beginning of the year, more than 5,000 hemodialysis sessions have been performed, demonstrating the relevance and impact of this service for the region.
