Pará advances in forest restoration policy with letter of intent signed at COP30
The document strengthens ecological restoration concessions in public areas, in partnership with the Brazilian Biodiversity Fund, Brazilian Forest Service, and The Nature Conservancy of Brazil
The Government of Pará, through the State Secretariat for Environment, Climate and Sustainability (Semas) and the Institute for Forest Development and Biodiversity (Ideflor-Bio), signed on Wednesday (12), in Belém, a letter of intent to strengthen the public policy of ecological restoration concessions in public areas, in partnership with the Brazilian Biodiversity Fund (Funbio), Brazilian Forest Service (SFB), and The Nature Conservancy of Brazil (TNC).
The action demonstrates the recognition of the parties regarding the potential of restoration as a fundamental vector for sustainable development in the region. Being signed at COP30, the act is a symbolic milestone for the implementation of the project and the unification of efforts to consolidate an inclusive and sustainable public policy for forest restoration.
Model - One of the main objectives of the initiative is to establish the institutional commitment to enable the implementation and expansion of the concession model aimed at recovering native vegetation.
The collaboration includes the development of inter-institutional governance arrangements among federal and state entities; enhancement of the regulatory and technical capacity of the involved institutions; structuring of innovative financial instruments that ensure the economic sustainability of the concessions; active engagement of local communities and other strategic actors, and promotion of socio-environmental integrity and productive inclusion in the territories.
Solid policy - For the Deputy Secretary of Water and Climate of Semas, Renata Nobre, the signing reinforces Pará's commitment to sustainability and innovation in environmental public policies. “This letter of intent consolidates the commitment of the Government of Pará to transform forest restoration into a solid, integrated, and economically viable public policy. By joining efforts with institutions of great national and international relevance, we are strengthening a model that combines environmental recovery, income generation, and social inclusion. It is a strategic step to ensure that restoration concessions effectively contribute to the sustainable development of our territory and to the appreciation of the State's natural heritage,” highlighted Renata Nobre.
The initiative is aligned with Pará's climate goals, according to the guidelines of the State Plan Amazon Now (PEAA), reinforcing the State's leadership in the environmental agenda and in building a low-carbon economy model based on forest conservation and the generation of sustainable opportunities for the population.
