Museum of the Amazons registers over 35 thousand visitors in one month of operation
The Gastronomy Warehouse, which is also part of the new Porto Futuro Complex, offers 15 local fast food operations for the public
With the aim of valuing culture, enhancing leisure, and strengthening the economy of Pará, the Museum of the Amazons and the Gastronomy Warehouse, which are part of the new Porto Futuro Complex in Belém, have recorded intense movement from local residents as well as tourists in the first month of operation. Over 35 thousand visitors were registered at the museum during this period. The spaces are part of the legacy of the 30th United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP30) for the capital.
“Porto Futuro has already established itself as a new point of enjoyment for culture, leisure, tourism, and the creative economy of our capital. The complex expands the requalification of the port area of Belém and houses spaces dedicated to art, science, food culture, tourism, social technologies, and bioeconomy. We are very happy to see the population embracing this space, proud of this project, which reflects our riverside and urban identity, projecting the Amazon to the world,” emphasizes Ursula Vidal, Secretary of State for Culture (Secult).
With free admission, the Museum of the Amazons is open with two exhibitions. On the ground floor, there is the international exhibition “Amazon,” by photographer Sebastião Salgado, presented for the first time in the Northern region of Brazil. On the mezzanine, visitors can see the exhibition “Ajurí,” conceived by the Institute of Development and Management (IDG).
The technical manager of the space, Grazielle Giacomo, highlights the intense movement. “It has been very beautiful to see the public's response since the opening on October 4th. The large number of visitors shows that the people of Pará are building a new relationship with the museums of the city, a genuine interest in knowing, experiencing, and recognizing themselves in the stories, sciences, and cultures that the Museum of the Amazons presents,” she emphasizes.
Rafaella Bastos, who made a point of visiting the Museum of the Amazons right after the opening, states that the facility is a space for leisure and tourism, which has the potential to expand the discussion of themes that allude to the Amazonian reality.
“I brought my 11-year-old son to get to know this contemporary space, which addresses the daily life and customs of indigenous people and the Amazon rainforest. The images presented are beautiful, and it is a very spacious area. I think the exhibitions bring visitors closer to the northern reality, with immersive experiences that stimulate visitor participation, engaging the imagination of both adults and children,” she says.
Structure - The Porto Futuro brings together five restored and requalified warehouses on the banks of the Guajará Bay. The complex of over 40 thousand square meters preserves the original architecture from the early 20th century, combining it with contemporary and sustainable design.
In addition to the Museum of the Amazons, which is part of the Integrated System of Museums and Memories (SIMM/Secult), the complex includes the Gastronomy Warehouse, designed to promote multiple flavor experiences, immersing visitors in the cuisine of Pará and the Amazon, with the gathering of 15 local fast food operations; the Bioeconomy and Innovation Park of the Amazon; and the Caixa Cultural.
Co-owner of Point do Açaí, an establishment that is part of the Gastronomy Warehouse, Nazareno Silva defines the complex, in this one month of operation, as a “success.” “We were surprised by the operation and the movement of people, it is beyond our expectations, especially on weekends. The space turned out wonderful, comfortable, and is privileged to be located right in front of the Bay, which further enhances our regional cuisine,” he celebrates.
Service - Until February 2026, admission to the Museum of the Amazons will be free. Tickets can be obtained through the Sympla platform or directly at the ticket office of the space. More information about the operation is available on the official Instagram profile: @museudasamazonias.
