Pará receives AenBio company aiming studies for adherence as anchor company of the ZPE of Barcarena
The evaluated project uses urban and oceanic waste for the production and export of sustainable fuels for ships and airplanes, combined with the circular economy and job creation in the State
The Government of Pará, through the Economic Development Company of Pará (Codec), has initiated institutional negotiations with AenBio, a Brazilian company specialized in clean technologies and biotechnology applied to the circular economy. In an online meeting held this Monday (3), the company expressed initial interest and presented a proposal for the possible installation of a renewable fuel industrial unit in the future Export Processing Zone of Barcarena (ZPE Barcarena).
The proposal foresees the production of clean and zero-sulfur fuel based on the reuse of urban and oceanic solid waste, in addition to the future structuring of an EcoPark industrial aimed at receiving, sorting, and converting waste from the Metropolitan Region of Belém. The technology reinforces circular economy actions and encourages the green chain with job creation and qualified income.
The executive director (managing partner) of AenBio, Hélder Cunha da Silva, highlighted that the evaluation of Pará is aligned with the context of global energy transition. “Pará has a strategic position, growing infrastructure, and an institutional ecosystem focused on sustainability. We are evaluating the State as a platform for renewable, sulfur-free, and low-emission fuel, prepared to meet international decarbonization targets. Transforming waste into energy and economic value is a necessary and possible movement from the Amazon.”
The director of Strategies and Institutional Relations of Codec, Pádua Rodrigues, emphasized that the interest presented converges with the sustainable economic development policy adopted by the State. “The implementation of the ZPE of Barcarena represents a state industrial policy, focusing on innovation, qualified jobs, and sustainability. We take AenBio's proposal seriously and with technical criteria. The process will follow the evaluation of the technical areas of the Company, within legal procedures, always focusing on public interest and the consolidation of a clean productive matrix for Pará.”
AenBio will send studies and complementary technical documentation for analysis by the Technical Board of Codec, according to the guidelines for projects with potential classification under the ZPE regime.

Participating in the meeting from AenBio were Hélder Cunha da Silva and Amos Soares. From Codec, in addition to director Pádua Rodrigues, Aline Tavares, manager of Development and Economic Studies, and Evandro Diniz, advisor, were present.
