The Pará Education Media Center (Cemep) received, this Wednesday (29), the visit of graduating students from the 9th grade of Elementary School and the 3rd year of High School from the Rural State School of the Bela Vista do Jejú Community, located in the municipality of São Miguel do Guamá, in northeastern Pará.

The technical visit aimed to provide students with an educational experience about the functioning of Cemep, its technologies, and the dynamics of mediated class transmission.

The delegation composed of 13 graduating High School students (3rd year) and 17 9th grade students (future Cemep students) was accompanied by teachers; the municipal secretary of Education of São Miguel do Guamá, Paulo Roberto Costa Dantas; the school director, Paulo Henrique Chaves Cruz; the vice-director, Izaura Domingos Costa, and the mediating teacher, Maria do Socorro Abreu de Lima.

During the program, students got to know the recording and transmission studios of the classes, understood the functioning of technological mediation in High School in the state network, and interacted with the pedagogical and technical teams of Cemep.

In a moment of great enthusiasm, student Ana Paula, from the 3rd year, was moved to meet the math teacher, Emanoel Fernando. "My God, the math teacher is real!" said the student.

The visit was guided by the director of Cemep, Thomas Jefferson, accompanied by the pedagogical coordinator, Anny Lopes, and the administrative coordinator, Vanessa; by the team of the program "Cemepando Projetos", represented by Wanilze Nunes and Roberto Figueiredo, in addition to the pedagogical team and teaching professors.

Cristina Ferreira dos Santos is the mother of student Ronald, from the 3rd year of High School and a lunch lady at a municipal school. She shares her desire to know the space and also the assurance that the initiative really works.

“At first, I was skeptical about Cemep because, for me, it wouldn’t work, so I put him in a traditional school for a year and a half. Later, I saw that it started to get difficult, far away and everything, and I brought it closer. My real desire was to know the Media Center to understand and see how the classes happen. I think it’s as important as in-person classes; this class is really a way as if you were with the teacher in the classroom. So, it doesn’t matter if he studies in person or through Cemep, via television, even though there is still a lot of taboo about it. But I went to college; I also studied through a television. I think it will work just as it worked for me,” said the mother.

Cemep - The Pará Education Media Center (Cemep) is responsible for offering regular in-person education mediated by technology, an alternative used to serve students living in remote areas of Pará and also to ensure that no one gets left behind. Students attend classrooms daily, with the in-person support of a mediating teacher, who works in partnership with specialist teachers who teach live classes from transmission studios.

The director of the Media Center, Thomas Jefferson, highlights the importance of the space.

“Cemep reaches difficult-to-access places where we would hardly be able to bring this work, such as, for example: the teachers who teach are state employees but teach in courses in Belém, and we would not be able to bring them to the communities farther from the capital. So, the Media Center operates with technology-mediated, in-person, and interactive teaching. It teaches from the studio and interacts in real-time with the student in the locality, where the student asks questions to the teacher in real-time, in front of the camera. This is technology-mediated teaching, a modality that offers quality public education in very distant places from the capital. Today, we can serve all students in all corners of the state. So, the expansion of CEMEP occurs in this sense of bringing quality public education to all corners of the state,” said Thomas.

After the visit, the group of students took the opportunity to also conduct a guided tour of the Pará Planetarium, further enriching the educational experience.

The meeting reaffirms Cemep's commitment to bringing schools and communities closer to the technological reality of education in Pará, promoting student protagonism, innovation, and integration among educational territories.
