Fapespa announces opportunity for a call with the British Council and the Amazonia+10 Initiative
The program is aimed at researchers from the UK and Brazil. The total amount of the call is £330,000. The funding limit for each proposal is £55,000.
The British Council, through the International Science Partnerships Fund (ISPF) of the UK Government, has joined the Amazonia+10 Initiative, which includes the Amazon Foundation for the Support of Studies and Research (Fapespa), to launch another call for the Amazonia BR/UK Workshops Grants program, aimed at researchers from the UK and Brazil. The total amount of the call is £330,000 (British pounds). The funding limit for each proposal is £55,000.
The call will fund scientific workshops to support the development of new research, projects, and collaborations between Brazilian and British researchers on topics related to the Amazon. "This is another opportunity for early-career researchers in Pará to establish partnerships, strengthen ties with researchers based in the UK, and thus enhance future proposals to be submitted in new calls from the Amazonia +10 initiative," explains Fapespa's Scientific Director, Deyvison Medrado.
Biodiversity, climate change, bioeconomy or biotechnology, promoting better living conditions for the Amazon population, and land use are some of the topics that can be addressed through the call.
"The workshops are the moment to start discussions about the topics addressed by the Amazonia+10 Initiative and thus strengthen prior alignment work for future proposals, which can be submitted in new calls to be launched in Brazil and abroad. The expectation is that the new networks to be formed will consolidate into new funding opportunities," Medrado adds.
The proposal must be submitted by a researcher based in the UK together with a researcher based in the Legal Amazon. The application deadline is October 21, 2025, at 7 AM (Brasília time; 11 AM London time).
"Internationalization is one of Fapespa's strategic objectives. In order to enhance the quality of research conducted in Pará, actions like this, in partnership with the British Council, offer a great opportunity for Brazilian researchers to join UK researchers in developing new projects. It is through the workshops that there is a rapprochement, a sharing of ideas that will strengthen these possible partnerships and turn these potential partnerships into funding realities. We expect that Pará will again lead the number of proposals from the Amazon, given the quality of its research group from the science and technology institutions in our State," evaluates Fapespa's president, Marcel Botelho.
