Belém gains a gastronomic hub with over 80 businesses at the São Brás Market
Historic space is delivered revitalized and reinforces the creative economy, tourism, and Pará's gastronomy

The Government of Pará delivered, this Thursday (9), the new gastronomic hub of the São Brás Market in Belém. The historic space has been completely revitalized and now houses over 80 businesses, establishing itself as one of the main urban facilities focused on culture, the creative economy, and tourism in the capital of Pará.
Governor Helder Barbalho participated in the delivery ceremony and highlighted the impact of the project for the city and its population.
“Imagine a beautiful building, which many people call 'the Louvre outside of Paris'. And we, in our little Paris of the Belle Époque, today have the privilege of, as a result of the work of the City Hall of Belém, in partnership with the State Government and the Federal Government, returning this fantastic space to Belém. Here you can find everything: traditional food like maniçoba, tacacá, duck in tucupi, pastel, hamburger, pizza, ice cream, açaí, and coffee. Come here because it has all the good and the best,” emphasized the governor.

Revitalization of historical heritage
Designed in 1911 by Italian architect Filinto Santoro, the São Brás Market is one of the landmarks of Belle Époque architecture in the capital of Pará. The requalification of the space preserved the original characteristics of the building, incorporating modern, accessible, and sustainable infrastructure.
The new hub brings together bars, restaurants, shops, and services, distributed across two ground-level pavilions of 630 m², eight shops in the basement – with services such as printing, locksmith, and currency exchange – in addition to two mezzanines. The first houses 14 shops, while the second has four restaurants with access to terraces and panoramic views.

The complex also features parking with internal access, climate control and exhaust systems, security through video monitoring, and state-of-the-art lighting.
Space for coexistence and inclusion
During the ceremony, the mayor of Belém, Igor Normando, emphasized the social and cultural importance of the space:

“It is a historical rescue for our city. Besides requalifying a heritage, this is a place for everyone, with a cultural and gastronomic diversity that represents a bit of each one of us. It is a gift for the city. There are over 80 permit holders, divided between gastronomy and the creative economy. A place to gather family, friends, a democratic space for all,” he stated.
Traditional fair remains in operation
In the external area of the complex, the traditional São Brás Fair, delivered in August of this year, continues to operate. There are 195 permit holders distributed among the food, snacks, fruits and vegetables, meats, and fish sectors, ensuring the supply of products to the population and the daily circulation of visitors in the area.

Institutional partnership
The delivery of the new gastronomic hub is the result of an integrated action between the City Hall of Belém, through the Metropolitan Development and Administration Company of Belém (CODEM) and the Secretary of Economic Development (SEDCON), with support from the Government of Pará, the Federal Government, and financing from Itaipu Binacional. The initiative reinforces the commitment to urban requalification, the appreciation of local culture, and the promotion of job and income generation.
