With the concept "Art that preserves, culture that inspires," the 13th edition of the Círio Handicraft Fair (FAC) was officially opened this Thursday (9) at the Belém Porto Futuro Urban Park, in a ceremony attended by Governor Helder Barbalho; Vice Governor Hana Ghassan; accompanied by various public authorities. Promoted by Sebrae Pará, with the support of the Government of Pará, the fair, in tune with the preparations for the United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP 30) in Belém, reaffirms the State's commitment to strengthening the creative economy, valuing Pará's culture, and environmental sustainability.
Círio Handicraft Fair 2025 brings together 210 entrepreneurs and promises to surpass all previous editions
During the opening speech, the governor highlighted that the FAC is one of the most genuine expressions of the cultural and entrepreneurial strength of the people of Pará. He emphasized that the support from the State Government guarantees concrete opportunities for artisans, indigenous peoples, and small producers, who transform Amazonian identity into art and income generation.
"The economy of our State strongly depends on individual entrepreneurs, micro and small business owners who believe in their own capacity to produce. They are the power and the foundation of the Pará and Brazilian economy," emphasized the governor.
Helder Barbalho added: "Many times we look at the GDP of Brazil and Pará and do not understand that what truly includes society are the small businesses, which transform artistic talent into production. May we, in this environment, show the quality of what we produce, promote our brands and products, and give opportunities for these people to position themselves in the market and make their economic activities viable."
Expected to attract over 50,000 visitors and generate around R$ 3.2 million in business, the FAC 2025 brings together 210 entrepreneurs in an area of over 4,000 square meters and promises to surpass all previous editions. Of these, 159 are artisans working with traditional typologies such as miriti, balata, ceramics, seeds, braided fibers, cuia, wood, and crochet, in addition to pieces inspired by the Círio de Nazaré festivities. The expectation is that more than 65,000 pieces will be sold by the end, on October 15.
Educational actions in a sustainable event
Sustainability is one of the pillars of this edition. The concept of the fair is reflected in the physical structure of the event, in educational actions, and in the production of exhibitors, who use local raw materials and recycling processes. A highlight is Sebrae Recicla, an initiative that promotes selective collection and proper management of waste generated at the fair, with the work of cooperatives served by the Pró-Catadores program, reinforcing the importance of the circular economy and conscious consumption as part of the sustainable development of the Amazon.
Inclusive fair
The program also includes the Mundo Amazônia space, which brings together works from indigenous peoples of the Kayapó, Ticuna, Assurini, Xicrin, Xipaya, Parakanã, Arara, Galibi-Marworno ethnicities, and Venezuelan Warao indigenous people, in addition to products from quilombola communities in Salvaterra, Acará, and Baião. This space practically translates the cultural diversity of Pará and its contribution to the preservation of traditional knowledge.
Another unprecedented environment in this edition is the Inclusive Entrepreneurship Space, aimed at mothers of people with disabilities or neurodivergent individuals, who find opportunities to sell their products and expand their support and income network at the fair.
The Superintendent Director of Sebrae in Pará, Rubens Magno, highlighted the historical and inclusive nature of the event, which connects local entrepreneurs with the market and the public, strengthening Amazonian identity and expanding opportunities.
"This is a historic fair, the 13th edition of the FAC, which greatly complements our faith. In this edition, we have about 250 entrepreneurs and we are breaking the record of records: there are almost 5,000 meters of fair, with an expected revenue of around R$ 3.2 million. The most interesting thing is that we are promoting a completely inclusive process: in addition to artisans and gastronomy entrepreneurs, we have indigenous people, quilombolas from different states, parents of children with disabilities, all participating. And thinking about the Amazon and sustainability, we included collectors of recyclable products, ensuring that all collected material is redefined," he stated.
Open to the public until October 15, at the parking lot of the Belém Porto Futuro Urban Park, the FAC 2025 operates from 10 am to 10 pm (except on the Sunday of Círio (12), when the hours will be from 3 pm to 10 pm) and has free entry. Permanently integrated into the cultural and economic calendar of the capital of Pará, the fair has established itself as part of the tradition of the Nazarene period, uniting faith, creativity, and regional development.
Throughout the programming, the public will be able to enjoy free musical performances with Pará artists from various styles, adding a festive and popular tone to the celebration. After the fair's closure, the space will be remodeled to house the entrepreneurship area of COP 30.
About the FAC - Held since 2012 in its current format, the Círio Handicraft Fair is the result of the union of two previous initiatives: the Miriti Fair, originating from Abaetetuba, and the old Círio Fair, which brought together artisans from different regions of Pará.
The event is supported by the Government of Pará, through the Secretariats of Culture (Secult), Indigenous Peoples (SEPI), Environment and Sustainability (Semas), and Health (Sespa), in addition to the Military Police, the City Hall of Belém, and the Federal University of Pará.
