HRPL launches project 'Health in Motion' to prevent Pressure Injuries in the ICU
The goal is to improve quality care indicators, strengthen teamwork, and promote more comfort and safety for patients
Focusing on patient safety, quality care, and valuing teamwork, the Regional Public Hospital of the East (HRPL) started, on Wednesday (01), the project 'Health in Motion', aimed at preventing Pressure Injuries (PI) in the Intensive Care Unit.
The initiative seeks to ensure that all eligible patients have their position changed safely, standardized, and continuously, reducing complications and strengthening care indicators.
The project's idealizer, nurse and ICU coordinator, Thais Rodrigues, explains that for each shift, a Nursing technician will be appointed as the 'Movement Leader'. He will have two main responsibilities:
• Call the team every 2 hours to perform the position change;
• Ensure that all eligible patients receive the care correctly.
To encourage team engagement, management will recognize the outstanding shift monthly, with awards and special honors. During the month, ICU nurses, who act as monitors and do not participate in the competition, will carry out the notification and monitoring of PIs. 'The shift that presents the lowest number of notifications and contributes to the reduction of the indicator will be considered the winner,' pointed out Thais.
The initiative is expected to directly contribute to the reduction of pressure injury incidence in the ICU, favor the improvement of quality care indicators, strengthen teamwork, and promote more comfort and safety for patients.
Training - On September 29 and 30, HRPL held training focused on the identification and prevention of Pressure Injuries (PI), emphasizing the correct position change and safe care practices. The training covered the different degrees of PI, from initial skin redness to more severe cases affecting muscles and bones, as well as unclassifiable and deep tissue injuries. The training reinforced that the main form of prevention is changing the patient's position every two hours, associated with skin care and proper support.
Approval - The quality of services is also recognized by those who use the unit. Painter Renan Gomes da Silva, 32, was accompanying his father hospitalized for surgery and highlighted the good experience with the care.
'This is my first time here, and I am really enjoying it. I was anxious when I entered the unit, but seeing the team's dedication to caring for my father was very good! I thank God and you for treating us well,' reported the user.
