The Government of Pará, through the Technical Assistance and Rural Extension Company (Emater), benefited more than 50 families on Friday (26) with the National Register of Family Agriculture (CAF) in the municipality of Cachoeira do Arari, in the Marajó Archipelago. The action was an initiative of Emater in partnership with the City Hall of Cachoeira do Arari.

Clarice Santos and Erinaldo: new life and visibility

Sitting next to her son Erinaldo Santos, Clarice dos Santos, an açaí producer in the region, said that she has been working as an extractivist for about 40 years but felt invisible as a farmer. But that changed when she was awarded the document, issued with the support of the Government of Pará, through Emater, reinforcing the commitment to bring these benefits to remote regions in all municipalities.

“It is a great opportunity that I am receiving, especially because it was through the Emater team that this benefit reached my door. All these years working and never had an opportunity come. It is a very important job, and now, with the CAF, I will be able to improve my açaí, and I intend to start planting cocoa,” she informed.

Like her, with the CAF, other families will have access to projects from the Federal Government, in partnership with financing agents, partners of the Government of Pará in promoting family agriculture. “This help came at the best time because, with the CAF, we will be able to access benefits that will allow us to improve our fishing work, buy new fishing equipment, to increase our income and improve my family's quality of life,” said José Ramos Luz, a fisherman from the Caracará Community.

Farmers awarded with the issuance of the CAF

Social programs - After the delivery, held at the Assembly of God temple of the Caracará Community, the beneficiaries received guidance from the local heads of the Cachoeira do Arari and Salvaterra Offices about the creation of projects they can access, such as the National Program for Strengthening Family Agriculture (Pronaf) category B, microcredit for farmers.

“This action was a partnership between the City Hall of Cachoeira do Arari and the Emater offices of Salvaterra and Cachoeira do Arari. We held a joint effort to issue the CAF with dozens of families, and today this task force is for the delivery of the documents,” informed Herlon Pereira, head of the local office of Cachoeira do Arari.

Investments - According to him, only this year more than R$ 500 thousand have been delivered in benefits to family farmers through Pronaf B. “Only in Cachoeira do Arari we have already managed to release half a million reais in projects aimed at fishing and extractivism. With the CAF, they can achieve improvements in equipment, vessels, motors, and assist in production. Annually, they need to make these improvements, and with access to rural credit, they can significantly enhance their activities,” he added.

For the president of Emater-Pará, Joniel Abreu, these actions reinforce the commitment of the Government of Pará to rural extension, bringing benefits to those who need it most. “This is the result of partnerships and our effort to bring public policies to rural farming families, in the fight against hunger, social inequalities in the countryside, showing that the Government of Pará is present in every corner of the State, just like Emater, which is in all 144 municipalities, providing technical assistance and access to these public policies for all family farmers, without any distinction,” he concluded.
