Sedap transfers 6,000 doses of genetic material to boost livestock farming in the Xingu Region
The first shipment of semen from high genetic value bulls was delivered on the morning of this Friday (26), at the headquarters of the secretary. The material will be distributed to eight municipalities served by the regional office in Altamira.

As part of the actions to stimulate and improve the production of the Pará herd, the Secretary of Agricultural Development and Fisheries (Sedap) transferred this Friday (26), 6,000 doses of semen from high genetic value bulls to the municipality of Altamira, located in the Xingu Integration Region. In total, the institution has already delivered 22,330 doses this year with a forecast to deliver another 11,000 next month. The estimate is that by the end of the year, the agricultural secretary will transfer 50,000 doses of genetic material.
In addition to Altamira, Cumaru do Norte, Marabá, Pau D'Árco, Piçarra, São Félix do Xingu, and Tucumã have also received doses. Through the 6th Regional office, located in Altamira, the municipalities of Uruará, Medicilândia, Brasil Novo, Altamira, Vitória do Xingu, Senador José Porfírio, Anapu, and Pacajá will be served with the semen.
This action is part of Sedap's Animal Genetic Improvement Program (Probovideos). The deputy secretary of the institution, Francisco Neto, who accompanied the delivery of the material, stated that one of Sedap's missions is to strengthen the productive chain of Pará's livestock. He emphasized that the region where the municipality of Altamira is located has great potential for the development of the agricultural sector.
“Pará fulfills its mission by transferring high genetic value semen to improve the herd in that region. We wish much success to the livestock farmers of this important region of Pará. This material will certainly enhance local livestock farming. We are working to strengthen all productive chains in the State, as directed by Governor Helder Barbalho,” emphasized the manager.

Expansion - With the transfer of the semen, Sedap expands its Animal Genetic Improvement program, as noted by the representative of the 6th Regional office of the secretary, agronomist Thallisson Pinho, who was at Sedap's headquarters in Belém to receive the genetic material. He noted that the region stands out in milk and meat production and that the received doses will strengthen the segment. “In this first moment, we are bringing these 6,000 doses of semen to serve the producers in the regional office's area of operation. There are 3,000 intended for dairy farming and 3,000 doses for beef cattle,” he informed.
Like the other municipalities, with the received doses, as informed by Sedap's veterinarian, Augusto Peralta, who is part of the Animal Production Coordination team (Copan), Artificial Insemination by Fixed Time (IATF) will be carried out in Altamira in the municipalities served by the regional office. “Several municipalities will benefit from these semen; we expect to transfer another 11,000 doses this October, and I believe another 6,000 in November. Adding everything, we estimate that by the end of the year we can deliver 50,000,” Peralta informed.
The material transferred by the secretary is suitable for fertilization and has already received certification through the In Vitro Fertilization laboratory of the Federal University of Pará (UFPA) "Prof. Dr. Otávio Mitio Ohashi," with which the secretary maintains a Technical Cooperation Agreement, as explained by Augusto Peralta.
