Women's Hospital of Pará integrates state health plan for COP30 in Belém
The unit is a reference in women's health with 120 beds, 24-hour emergency care, and a laboratory and imaging diagnostic examination sector

The Women's Hospital of Pará (HMPA), in Belém, has been officially included among the support units for COP30 (30th United Nations Conference on Climate Change), which will be held in November in the capital of Pará. The State Health Plan for the event was developed by the State Department of Public Health (Sespa).
The Deputy Secretary of Health Policy Management, Heloísa Guimarães, notes that the strategy involved articulation, coordination, and integration of all units in the network. "We consolidated our plan for the COP, starting the construction in 2023, so that each state health unit performs its effective role in the event," she explained.
She highlighted the experience of the public health network of Pará in large events, such as the Círio de Nazaré, which gathers more than a million people in Belém every year. "At COP, there will be about 50,000 people over twenty days. Pará and the capital are prepared, our hospitals are too, and we are making this preparation with tranquility and safety," she stated.

The HMPA reinforces the State Health Plan for the COP, being responsible for providing reference care in gynecological emergencies. The general director of HMPA, Nelma Machado, reaffirmed the institution's commitment. "We are once again reaffirming our commitment to the public health of our State, integrated into the structured plan for the support of women within our profile during the COP, with our teams prepared to offer the best assistance to our patients and to the participants of the global event who may need the hospital," she said.

Heloísa Guimarães added that the preparation for COP30 will leave a legacy for public health. "The training, revised protocols, improvements in individual and collective performance, and certification in an international event strengthen the entire network," she emphasized. "The most important are the memories and the feeling of contribution to this global cause, in addition to the expectation of advances in the climate agenda."
Care for women's health

The HMPA represents an advance in comprehensive care for women's health in the North Region. In just six months of operation, it has already performed more than 170,000 services including consultations, exams, surgeries, and specialized emergency care.
The unit has 11 floors and 120 beds, with 100 for hospitalization and 20 for ICU, 24-hour emergency care, a modern laboratory and imaging diagnostic examination sector, medium and high complexity surgery rooms, and outpatient clinics with more than 20 medical specialties.

The main care focuses on endometriosis, fibromyalgia, and gigantomastia, with specialized multidisciplinary follow-up in nutrition, physiotherapy, and psychology, as well as areas such as gynecology, mastology, urology, proctology, pain clinic, cardiology, clinical and surgical neurology, endocrinology, plastic and reconstructive surgery, orthopedics, geriatrics, and dermatology.
To be treated at the Women's Hospital, the patient must first seek a Basic Health Unit (UBS) or another health unit in the municipality where she resides, or seek a medical referral at a Usina da Paz. The Women's Hospital of Pará is located at Avenida Gentil Bittencourt, No. 2175, São Brás neighborhood, in Belém.
