Regional Hospital of Tapajós promotes lecture on organ donation for patients
The action was part of the September Green program, a month dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of organ and tissue donation

The Nephrology department of the Regional Hospital of Tapajós (HRT), in Itaituba, in the southwest of Pará, held a special program on Wednesday (24) in homage to September Green, a national campaign to encourage organ and tissue donation.
The activity was coordinated by the social worker of the department, Wukisileia Brito, and included a lecture given by nephrologist Dr. Emanoel Esposito, the technical responsible for the Kidney Transplant Service of the Regional Hospital of Baixo Amazonas (HRBA), in Santarém.

During the presentation, the specialist clarified frequent doubts from patients undergoing hemodialysis, such as who can be a donor, when it is possible to enter the transplant waiting list, and what the steps are to access the procedure.
“The main doubts were about who can donate and when the patient can enter the transplant waiting list,” said the doctor. Patients were also surprised by the ease of access to transplantation, as the procedure is performed at HRBA, in Santarém, a region close to Tapajós, where they reside. “In Itaituba, it was necessary to bring these instructions to further qualify the care and treatment offered to users,” the doctor emphasized.

On this occasion, the doctor also highlighted the benefits of transplantation. “The surgery guarantees greater survival, quality of life, reintegrates the patient into the family, promotes social rehabilitation, the possibility of returning to work, and brings economic benefits, in addition to numerous gains for social and family coexistence,” he explained.
Among the patients present was Salustiano da Conceição, 63, who has been undergoing hemodialysis for three years at the hospital. “I listened carefully to the instructions and, even at my age, I intend to enter the transplant waiting list because I was able to clear my doubts and filled my heart with hope,” the patient shared.

The program also featured psychologist Jordan Moraes Costa, who addressed the importance of mental health in the treatment process. For the Nursing coordinator of HRT, Eduardo Araújo, the initiative reinforces the humanized care for users.
“The Nephrology department currently serves 86 patients, distributed over three shifts, and actions like this contribute to providing more information and strengthening the bond with everyone,” emphasized the coordinator.
Managed by the Social Institute Mais Saúde, the Regional Hospital of Tapajós is a unit of the Government of Pará, through the State Department of Public Health (Sespa). A reference for the six municipalities in the Tapajós region, HRT offers medium and high complexity care in specialties such as traumatology, internal medicine, general surgery, and high-risk obstetrics.
