Resident of Goianésia do Pará celebrates the end of treatment at Unacon, the oncology unit of the government of Pará
Mrs. Benedita, 83 years old, rang the “Golden Bell of Victory,” celebrating her medical discharge after seven years of treatment
In operation for nine years, Unacon has stood out for its positive impact on the lives of oncology patients throughout the region. During this period, thousands of appointments have been made, including consultations, exams, follow-ups, and procedures. Many patients continue treatment and are getting closer to a cure. One of the most moving examples is that of Mrs. Benedita, 83 years old, a resident of Goianésia do Pará, who on this Monday (15) rang the “Golden Bell of Victory,” celebrating her medical discharge after seven years of treatment.

Diagnosed with breast cancer in 2018, she was referred by the basic health care network of her municipality to Unacon, a reference in oncology care in the regions of Lake Tucuruí, Carajás, and Araguaia. After going through all stages of treatment, Mrs. Benedita celebrated the moment as a victory.
“I received immense support from everyone, with everything I needed. Quickly, the entire team directed me to the procedures. The relevance of Unacon and the entire team in my life was fundamental for the speed with which everything happened. Today, after seven years of treatment, I receive God's blessing, which, through the doctors and professionals at Unacon, provided me with the cure. I return to my city with the certainty that I will enjoy a full life with restored health,” she celebrated.

Mrs. Benedita also made a point of thanking the orderly Antônio Marcos Serrão Brito, who accompanied her throughout her journey. “This man of God, like everyone at Unacon, was my friend, son, a brother who never abandoned me. May God bless him throughout his life,” she said emotionally.
In addition to hormone therapy, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy, Unacon offers consultations, laboratory tests, oncological surgeries, and follow-up after procedures. “Our purpose is to ensure a humanized service, welcoming patients with care, respect, and hope,” highlighted Amanda Cavalcante, social worker at the unit.

The ringing of the bell is considered a symbolic ritual of victory, representing the end of a treatment phase and the celebration of life. For the coordinator of Unacon, Samara Nunes, it is always a remarkable moment. “Every day we receive new patients. The bell is a symbol of struggle, resistance, and victory. It is when the patient says: ‘I did it,’ fills their eyes with tears, and the entire team is moved to have contributed to the cure,” she stated.
