Metropolitan Hospital promotes playful activity for pediatric patients
The campaign dedicated to suicide prevention and the appreciation of life was addressed through play and dialogue
The Metropolitan Hospital of Urgency and Emergency (HMUE), in Ananindeua (Metropolitan Region of Belém), promoted on Thursday (11) a playful activity in honor of "Yellow September," aimed at pediatric patients. The initiative was organized by the Humanization Working Group (GTH) and conducted by the Psychology team, which presented the dynamic "Emocionômetro," addressing in a playful way the recognition and expression of emotions by children.

Milena Alves, a psychology resident, reported that the goal was to promote a dialogue about "Yellow September" with the children. "We wanted to show that they will feel many things, and that it is important for them to be able to name these emotions and know ways to deal with them, in addition to offering the support of Hospital Psychology in these moments," she explained.
Psychologist Luiz Chachar added that the action allowed for working on emotional intelligence and teaching children how to better deal with their emotions. "Many times we notice that children cannot have this discernment, talk about what they feel and how they are feeling. We, psychologists, are a bridge to identify these feelings, validate them, and pass them on to the team during care," he emphasized.
Approval - Keane Silva, 35 years old, is the mother of Wallace Silva, 5 years old, who has been hospitalized at HMUE for three days. According to her, the boy "really liked it. He was excited and played a lot with the other children. The games do him a lot of good and also for the others who are hospitalized. The Hospital deserves congratulations for the initiative," said Keane, a resident of the municipality of Tomé-Açu, in northeastern Pará.
Raimunda Lima, 57 years old, also expressed her joy at seeing her grandson, Max Fayad Lima, 12 years old, involved in the play. "The action is very good! Whenever there are these activities, he participates. He gets a little anxious wanting to go home, but these activities help distract him a lot and bring joy to the children who are hospitalized," said the resident of Breves, a municipality in the Marajó Archipelago.
"Yellow September" is a campaign dedicated to suicide prevention and the appreciation of life. The central date is September 10, recognized by the World Health Organization (WHO) as the International Day for Suicide Prevention. The movement seeks to break the silence, reduce stigma, and encourage the search for support, showing that talking can save lives.

Structure – Managed by the National Institute for Social and Human Development (INDSH), in partnership with the State Department of Public Health (Sespa), HMUE has operational beds in the specialties of traumatology, general surgery, neurosurgery, internal medicine, pediatrics, plastic surgery (exclusive for burn victims), and ICU beds.
In 2024 alone, more than 600,000 services – including hospitalizations, surgeries, laboratory and imaging exams, multiprofessional care, and outpatient consultations – were offered to patients from the Metropolitan Region of Belém and other municipalities in Pará.
