The governor of Pará, Helder Barbalho, announced this Wednesday (10) that the BRT Metropolitan system will allow residents of Castanhal to travel to Belém by paying a single fare of R$ 4.60. He requested a feasibility study from the State of Pará's Regulatory and Control Agency for Public Services (Arcon) to include the city, which is 67 kilometers from the capital, in the integrated transportation operation.

"We are announcing the participation of Castanhal in the BRT Metropolitan system, so that residents who need to travel to Marituba, Ananindeua, and Belém, including Ver-o-Peso, São Brás, and the Federal University of Pará (UFPA), are integrated into the system, which will start its operation in October. We are facilitating the movement of people and reducing costs," said the governor.

The system will have 265 new buses, including 40 electric ones, equipped with air conditioning and Wi-Fi

Structure - The works of the BRT Metropolitan have reached 90% completion, and the system is expected to enter the assisted operation phase in October. The project, one of the main ones in the area of urban mobility executed by the Government of Pará, includes 13 stations and 13 walkways along the express lane, in the stretch between Entroncamento and the municipality of Marituba.

The integration terminals in Ananindeua and Marituba are already in the final phase of construction, featuring an unprecedented structure: the buses arriving and departing will not use the same space, ensuring safety and preventing accidents — an exclusive model in Brazil. In addition, each terminal will have a Citizenship Station, where residents of Pará will have access to services such as document issuance and legal guidance. There will also be clinics, shops, snack bars, restrooms, and accessibility for people with disabilities.

The system will benefit users of public transportation in Belém, Ananindeua, Marituba, Benevides, Santa Bárbara do Pará, Santa Izabel do Pará, and, in the future, based on the technical study, Castanhal. There will be 265 new buses, including 40 electric ones, equipped with air conditioning and Wi-Fi. They will serve the express line between Marituba and São Brás, and the feeder lines that will connect neighborhoods to the BRT Metropolitan terminals. With the system in operation, it will be possible to use more than one bus by paying a single fare.
