Approximately 800 people attended the night of this Tuesday (9) for the observation of the night sky promoted by the Center for Sciences and Planetarium of Pará (CCPPA), linked to the State University of Pará (Uepa). This was the first observation of the second semester of 2025. In the event, which took place from 7 PM, free of charge, telescopes and binoculars were made available for observing the details of the Waning Moon and the planet Saturn.

"This is an extension activity where we open the doors of the Planetarium so that the population can gain more knowledge about Astronomy. The mission of the Center for Sciences and Planetarium of Pará is to disseminate scientific knowledge, and this is an activity where we have a close relationship with the public, in an area that is intriguing for the population," said the director of CCPPA, José Roberto Silva.

According to the physics technician at CCPPA, Gabriel Condurú, the main idea of today's initiative was to awaken interest in scientific knowledge, especially in Astronomy, in an interactive way, both in children and in youth and adults. "The Planetarium uses Astronomy as a lure for scientific knowledge. So, it is established as a space for non-formal education, where the main pillar is Astronomy, the recognition of the main stars, the planets, and through that, introduce scientific knowledge," he highlighted.

Considered a fundamental piece for the sociocultural scientific development of the population, the space is valued as one of the main public facilities in the area. "The Planetarium is a rare gem that we have, not only for Uepa but also for the Government of the State of Pará. So, we are very happy with the Planetarium and intend to invest more and more in this public equipment, as it generates a great contribution to the society of Pará," emphasized Uepa's Extension Pro-Rector, Higson Coelho.

Experience

Participating for the first time in an activity at the Center for Sciences and Planetarium of Pará, nurse Luana Patrício Pinto took the opportunity to bring her mother and daughter to observe the Moon up close. "It was very cool, I thought it was wonderful. I am a big fan of the stars and the Moon, I want to pass this on to my daughter, and seeing it up close is wonderful. It’s a perfect activity," she praised.

The little Maitê Rosal, only 6 years old, caught attention by wearing a shirt printed with an astronaut and the Moon, a reflection of her enchantment with the Universe. Passionate about the stars, she participated in the activity accompanied by her parents, Gustavo and Alana. For them, the experience goes beyond entertainment. "This is a good initiative because it introduces the population to a science that is little known. It awakens interest, and through that, each one seeks knowledge," Gustavo highlighted.

Among the visitors, today's experience was described as unique. This was the case for advertiser Hugo Tomkiwitz, who participated in the observation and highlighted the receptiveness of the team and the learning provided during the activity.

"Here, specifically, we have this guidance from the Planetarium team. It was really cool because they were very welcoming. It’s a group that is super willing to talk and go into details about the constellations, so I found it very interesting. I saw Saturn, a little sideways, because it is in orbit, but it was a really cool, different experience. It’s the first time I’m seeing it, I highly recommend it to everyone," he concluded.
