Residents, students, and teachers from Vila Santa Cruz participated in the activity

Focusing on the restructuring of the community nursery and encouraging the planting of forest and fruit species, the Institute for Forest Development and Biodiversity of Pará (Ideflor-Bio) promoted, in partnership with the company Calmap, on this Monday (1st), a seedling production course for residents, teachers, and students from Vila Santa Cruz, located in the Araguaia Environmental Protection Area (APA), in São Geraldo do Araguaia, in southeastern Pará.

The practice was fundamental for the environmental education of children and adolescents

The training included students from the Pedro Gomes Municipal School, under the supervision of teacher Valdemir, who highlighted the relevance of the practice for the environmental education of the students.

“We are in the second year of this planting activity, and last year we managed to plant around three thousand seedlings of forest species, açaí, and cocoa. It is a work that raises awareness and sensitizes our students about the importance of preserving the environment, in addition to generating income with fruit species for the community,” said the teacher. He also thanked the company Calmap, responsible for donating the nursery and supplies, and for the support of Ideflor-Bio's brigadistas throughout the work.

The manager of the Araguaia Administrative Region of Ideflor-Bio, Laís Mercedes, closely followed the program and reinforced the strategic role of the action for the conservation of the APA. “When we invest in training and structure spaces like this nursery, we are creating conditions for the community to be the protagonist of preservation. Seeing students, teachers, and residents engaged in this process shows that we are on the right path to unite education, sustainability, and local development,” she emphasized.

The sustainable use of natural resources was one of the focuses of the course

Techniques - The course addressed practices for producing forest and fruit seedlings, management techniques, and guidance on the importance of tree planting for environmental balance. In addition, it sought to strengthen collective awareness about the benefits of recovering degraded areas and the sustainable use of natural resources.

Laís Mercedes highlights that the initiative represents another step in the integration between public management, the private sector, and local communities. The collaborative work strengthens not only environmental conservation but also socioeconomic opportunities, encouraging the participation of new generations in reforestation activities and the appreciation of regional biodiversity.

Continuity - The program continues this Wednesday (3), this time in the community of Ilha de Campo, also located in the Araguaia APA, which will receive the same training. The activity will take place starting at 8 am, in front of Dona Lenilha's handicraft factory.
