Government of Pará strengthens hospitality and consolidates the legacy of COP30 in partnership with hosting platforms like Airbnb
With the coordination of Setur, daily rates have already dropped by 22%, while the accommodation network grows and hosts are qualified for the conference

With 76 days to go until the 30th United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP30) in Belém, the Government of Pará has taken another step to consolidate hospitality as one of the legacies of the event. In partnership with the short-term rental platform Airbnb, the State Secretariat for Tourism (Setur) held the "Airbnb Day" on Tuesday (26), an event that brought together hosts, authorities, and experts to discuss the role of the local economy and responsible hospitality in preparing the state to welcome conference visitors.
The event showcased results already achieved by the strategy led by the State. Among the highlights, a 22% reduction in the average daily rates for properties listed on Airbnb in the municipalities of Belém, Ananindeua, and Marituba between February and August of this year. In addition to the drop in prices, there was progress in the qualification of the offerings: the number of listings classified as "Guest Favorites" – a seal granted to the best accommodations based on reviews and reliability – increased by almost 70%, and the number of Superhosts – the highest-rated hosts on the platform – grew by about 50%.

Airbnb also reported an increase in the number of active listings in Belém, which rose from about a thousand in 2023 to over 8,800. There was also a 115% increase in domestic searches for destinations in Pará. Belém, Salinas, and Santarém are among the most sought after, and Salvaterra was included in the list of the ten most hospitable coastal municipalities in Brazil.
The Secretary of Tourism of Pará, Eduardo Costa, highlighted that the results presented are the result of the State Government's coordination with different short-term rental platforms. As part of this agenda, five in-person events and two webinars aimed at guiding hosts on appropriate pricing, quality service, and alignment with COP30 guidelines have already been held. "Airbnb has been an important partner in this collective construction, exchanging experiences, disseminating best practices, and collaborating for the development of local tourism," he stated.
According to him, the numbers confirm that Pará is on the right track. "We have expanded accommodation capacity, reduced the average daily rates, and stimulated the economy. This joint work with short-term rental platforms demonstrates that the State is prepared for COP30."
Preparation and legacy - The General Director of Airbnb in South America, Fiamma Zarife, reinforced Pará's strategic role in preparing for COP30. "The State Government has been exemplary in conducting a collaborative process with local hosts. Our role is to add to this effort, encouraging responsible and welcoming practices. COP30 is a unique opportunity to showcase Pará's hospitality to the world and leave a lasting legacy," she said.
Host Aline Marion, leader of the Airbnb Community in Belém, emphasized that the partnership with the state was crucial for strengthening the sector. "Being a host in Belém is about showcasing our culture and our way of welcoming. The courses and guidance offered have helped us turn this vocation into a real opportunity for income and connection with visitors from all over the world," she stated.

Tourism with identity: the route "This is Pará" strengthens local experiences
The appreciation of regional tourism is also part of the State Government's strategy in preparation for COP30. In partnership with Setur, Airbnb launched the route "This is Pará" in September 2024, as part of the Airbnb Routes project. The initiative brings together itineraries that highlight the cultural, environmental, and gastronomic diversity of the state, connecting tourists to the authenticity of the Amazon.
The first itinerary, "Belém – a capital like you have never seen," invites visitors to explore the city through iconic tourist spots such as the Ver-o-Peso Market, the Mangal das Garças, the Utinga Park, and the Estação das Docas, as well as to experience local traditions, such as the flavor of jambu, the rhythms of carimbó, and the faith in the Círio de Nazaré.

Other itineraries cover the Salgado region, highlighting the beaches of Salinópolis and Bragança; the west of Pará, which values the meeting of the waters of the Tapajós and Amazon rivers, the waterfront of Santarém, and the village of Alter do Chão – considered one of the most beautiful river beaches in the world; and Marajó Island, marked by its natural charms, unique cuisine, and unique cultural manifestations.
