On World Dog Day, Kennel is Delivered at Novo Mangueirão
The space was built to ensure safety and dignity for the six dogs that have lived in the stadium since the Covid-19 pandemic

The Olympic Stadium of Pará – Journalist Edgar Proença (Mangueirão) received a special celebration on this Tuesday (26) in honor of World Dog Day. The Government of Pará, through the State Secretariat of Sports and Leisure (Seel), delivered the new Mangueirão Kennel, a space built to ensure safety and dignity for the six dogs that have lived in the stadium since the Covid-19 pandemic.
The dogs arrived at Mangueirão during the period when the stadium was adapted as a shelter for homeless people at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic. With the passing of some guardians, the animals remained on site and began to receive daily care from the sports complex team.
Until then, they roamed freely around the stadium, but now they have their own suitable space for game days and major events. The new kennel was built in accordance with all legal and technical standards, ensuring well-being and safety. In addition, each dog received its own identity, with a name and badge, officially marking its place in the routine of Mangueirão.

The Secretary of Sports and Leisure, Cássio Andrade, emphasized the importance of the space. “Today, they gain a dignified, safe, and loving space. Each with a name, badge, and guaranteed place in the history of Mangueirão. On this symbolic day, we reinforce the importance of responsible adoption, care for animals, and the fight against any form of mistreatment. Because sports are also about respect, inclusion, and humanity. Mangueirão is the home of football and, now, also their home,” he stated.
The initiative reinforces the social role of Mangueirão, which, in addition to being the main stage for Pará football, also consolidates itself as a space for care, respect, and welcome for the animals that are part of its routine.
The director of Mangueirão, Mauricio Bororó, was moved to see a dream realized with the construction of the Mangueirão Kennel. “I am very happy for this important moment for our animals. I can only thank Secretary Cássio Andrade and the Government of Pará for providing all this for our pets,” Bororó said.
World Dog Day: World Dog Day is celebrated this Tuesday (26). The date, created in 2004 by animal behavior specialist Colleen Paige, originated in the United States and later gained international reach. The goal is to promote awareness about responsible adoption, spaying, vaccination, and combating mistreatment — in addition to celebrating the affectionate relationship between animals and their owners.
