The Menino Jesus Regional Hospital of Oriximiná (HRMJ) performed, between August 15 and 17, the first video laparoscopic cholecystectomies in its history.

The procedure, considered minimally invasive, marks the official start of video surgeries at the unit and symbolizes a significant advancement for public health in the Northern Corridor region.

Cholecystectomy is the procedure to remove the gallbladder, an organ that functions as a "reservoir" that stores bile, a liquid produced by the liver that helps digest fats.

In total, nine patients benefited from this first cycle of procedures. The patients who underwent the surgeries had stable clinical recovery, without complications, and were discharged in less than 24 hours.

The video laparoscopic technique, in addition to being safer, provides shorter hospitalization time, more comfort in the postoperative period, and a reduction in the risk of complications.

The coordinator of the Surgical Center, Sharla Neves, highlighted the importance of the multiprofessional approach in this historic milestone.

"Today we are experiencing a unique moment for the health of our municipality. The performance of the first video cholecystectomy is the result of a collective effort. I thank our nursing team, which demonstrated a high level of preparation and engagement, always attentive to patient safety protocols. This care makes all the difference," she stated.

The hospital's care manager, Nayana Azevedo, reinforced that the advancement is a reflection of continuous investment in professional qualification and integration among teams.

"More than technology, what ensures the success of a surgery like this is aligned teamwork. I especially congratulate our nurses, technicians, and the entire care team who acted with responsibility, safety, and empathy. This shows that we are prepared to advance even further," she emphasized.

The surgeries were conducted by general surgeon Rodrigo Matos, who celebrated the technological and care advancement achieved by the hospital.

"Performing video laparoscopic surgeries here at the Menino Jesus Regional Hospital is a great advancement for the local and regional population. It is a technology already widespread in Brazil, and we managed to execute the procedures with excellence, using quality materials and a trained team," he highlighted.

The specialist also explained the direct benefits for patients. "These surgeries allow for a much faster recovery. Since there is no need for a large incision, the patient resumes their activities in less time, bringing benefits both to society and to the SUS network," he concluded.

The performance of the first video surgeries in Oriximiná represents not only a milestone in the hospital's history but also an important step in ensuring access to quality and effective health care for the population of the Northern Corridor.

Excellence in care and 100% SUS quality

The Menino Jesus Regional Hospital of Oriximiná has a structure that includes 26 inpatient beds, an Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 16 welcoming beds, and two surgical rooms, providing comprehensive and humanized care to patients.

The unit is equipped to perform laboratory and imaging tests, serving in seven specialties: anesthesiology, general medicine, general surgery and gynecology, orthopedics, traumatology, and intensive medicine.
