In homage to Student Day, the Jonathas Pontes Athias State School promoted the Ecological Walk - Connecting with Nature and the Community. The activity brought together approximately 350 students from 6th to 9th grade, in an action focused on environmental education, sustainability, and strengthening ties with the school community. The event took place on the morning of this Wednesday (13).

The initiative aimed to promote environmental awareness among students and the surrounding community, encouraging practices for nature preservation and civic attitudes. In addition, the walk aimed to encourage healthy habits, reduce stress through contact with green areas, and strengthen bonds between students, teachers, and local residents.

“The initiative can enhance students' environmental awareness, encouraging sustainable practices in daily school life, such as reducing waste, properly separating trash, and preserving common spaces. It also strengthens responsibility, collaboration, and respect among peers, promoting care for school property and the environment. With the participation of the entire school, the values conveyed are experienced collectively, strengthening the sense of community and amplifying the impact of actions, as students and staff become multipliers of these practices inside and outside the school,” highlights Carlos Miranda, the vice-principal of the unit.

After the walk, students headed to the school unit, where they participated in workshops on themes related to sustainability, conscious water use, energy transition, environmental care, and home safety.

“In the workshops, I realized the importance of rethinking daily habits. The activity about waste made me reflect on better separating trash and avoiding water waste. I understood that small actions, like turning off lights, reusing materials, taking care of plants, and not littering, make a difference. In the walk, I also learned that sustainability is using natural resources consciously, preserving them for future generations,” said Helena Costa, a 9th-grade student.

Participation in the workshops and the walk was a very significant experience for Davi Juan Ferreira, a 5th-grade student, as it sparked reflections on the importance of caring for the environment, as well as the possibility of positively contributing to nature preservation, both at home and at school.

“During the action, I learned a lot about sustainability and how to better care for the environment. In the recycling workshop, I discovered that it is possible to transform PET bottles into toys, and this motivated me to want to separate trash correctly at home, without mixing everything. Overall, I learned that sustainability means taking care of nature today so that it continues to exist in the future, with actions like planting trees, recycling, and avoiding river pollution,” emphasizes the student.

The Ecological Walk and the workshops promoted by the Jonathas Pontes Athias School demonstrate the institution's commitment to the comprehensive education of students, uniting knowledge, socio-environmental responsibility, and community engagement. Activities like this strengthen essential values for building a more conscious, participatory, and sustainable society, leaving a positive legacy that goes far beyond the classroom.
