The Integrated Center for Inclusion and Rehabilitation (CIIR), in Belém, through the Humanization Working Group (GTH), held a conversation circle on Wednesday (08/13), in honor of World Breastfeeding Week, whose theme this year is "Let’s Prioritize Breastfeeding: Building Sustainable Support Systems".

Held in the hall of block C, the health education action brought together pregnant staff and mother users served by the unit, valuing person-centered care that considers not only the health of babies but also the well-being of mothers, families, and the care team itself.

The mediator of the meeting, Paula Barros, a member of the GTH, highlighted that the activity is a tradition at the institution. "Every year we seek to ensure information and a time for listening to users and staff," she said. According to her, the choice of this year's format aimed to open space for more direct dialogues, "based on the experiences of the participants and aligned with the theme of the campaign."

The conversation circle was facilitated by the nurse from the Autism Spectrum Disorder Care Center (Natea) and breastfeeding consultant, Mariana Sasaki. She addressed points such as the benefits of breastfeeding, correct latch (the act of the baby sucking breast milk properly), milk production, emotional care, and strengthening support networks.

"Generating this knowledge is essential for effective breastfeeding," she stated, adding that it is also necessary to consider maternal rights, common difficulties, and strategies to maintain breastfeeding after returning to work.

Exchanges and sharing experiences – User Juliana Barroso, mother of Ezequiel, three months old, reported that the exchange of experiences was enriching. She explained that her baby, diagnosed with laryngomalacia, breastfeeds for only a few minutes and complements his diet with formula. "Thank God he still breastfeeds, because there are severe cases where this is not possible," she said. For her, the meeting "allows learning what was not known from other mothers."

Staff member from the Billing department of CIIR and six months pregnant, Cibelle Rayol also emphasized the benefits of the moment. "I gained knowledge and cleared doubts," she stated, highlighting that each story heard reinforced the perception that "each experience is unique" and that the learnings will be carried for a lifetime.

Importance – World Breastfeeding Week is celebrated annually from August 1 to 7, promoted by the World Health Organization (WHO), the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), the Ministry of Health, and partners in over 120 countries. In Brazil, the month of August is recognized as "Golden August," a symbol of the fight to encourage breastfeeding as a foundation for health, development, and equity throughout life.

CIIR is a reference in Pará for medium and high complexity assistance to people with visual, physical, auditory, and intellectual disabilities. Access to services is made through referrals from health units, via the Municipal Regulation Center, which directs requests to State Regulation. The user's profile is analyzed by the State Regulation System (SER).
