Polyclinic Lago de Tucuruí bets on Nursing for initial welcoming and care
With over 2,000 monthly appointments, Nursing is essential for identifying early signs, providing guidance, and ensuring quick access to treatment

Even before medical care, the health of hundreds of people begins to change in the triage room of the Polyclinic Lago de Tucuruí. It is there that the Nursing team acts in the first contact, listening to and welcoming each user. This initial look often prevents subtle signs from turning into serious problems.
"The nurse is the first to listen, observe, and welcome. This moment is crucial because every detail counts: a child's persistent fever, chest pain that doesn't go away, or an elderly person's confusion can be serious signs. Early detection is what allows for quick action and prevents complications," explains nurse Leidiane de Sá Macedo.
Welcoming
The flow begins at the reception: ticket, registration, and soon after, the triage performed by nursing. It is at this point that the main complaints and urgent signs are identified.
"The work of nursing is fundamental to ensure that each patient is referred to the right specialty and receives safe and humanized care," reinforces Leidiane.
In addition to referrals, the team also guides patients and their families. Recommendations for balanced eating habits, hydration, correct use of medications, physical exercise, and fall prevention are among the most frequent advice.
"Whenever we have the chance, we take advantage of this contact to provide guidance. These are simple actions that can prevent hospitalizations and improve the patient's quality of life," adds nurse Leidiane de Sá Macedo.
Service:
With an average of 2,000 nursing appointments per month, the team operates on the front line to meet demands of low, medium, and high complexity. Among the most common symptoms that require immediate referral are intense and persistent pain, high fever without apparent cause, shortness of breath, abnormal bleeding, fainting, convulsive crises, neurological changes, or unexplained weight loss.
For the executive director of the unit, Léia Sandim, the service represents more than just numbers. "Each patient treated is a life that comes to us with a unique story. Our commitment is to ensure that this first look — which starts in nursing — is welcoming, quick, and efficient. We work so that no one is left without an answer and so that the user feels they are in a space prepared to care for them," she emphasizes.
The manager also reinforces that teamwork is the differential of the Polyclinic Lago de Tucuruí: "Nursing opens the door, but all of us — doctors, technicians, social workers, therapists, and psychologists — form a network to care for the person in a comprehensive way."
Access

The nursing service is accessible through internal referrals or municipal regulations. In many cases, the first evaluation made by the nurse already allows for the patient to be referred directly to the indicated specialty, ensuring faster treatment.
