National Secretary of Security inspects the construction of the third Riverine Base in the state to be installed in Abaetetuba
The structure will be installed in Baixo Tocantins and received over R$ 10 million in state investments with support from the Federal Government
The Government of Pará, through the State Secretariat for Public Security and Social Defense (Segup), has completed the construction of the third Integrated Riverine Base in the State, which will be installed in the municipality of Abaetetuba, in the Baixo Tocantins region. With 100% of the works completed, the structure was inspected this Tuesday (12) by the National Secretary of Public Security, Mário Sarrubbo, during a visit to the shipyard in Icoaraci, a district of Belém.
The state investment in the construction of the base exceeds R$ 10 million and is part of Pará's riverine security strategy, considered one of the main actions to combat organized crime along the riverside routes of the Amazon.
Strategic security on river routes
During the technical visit, the head of the National Secretariat of Public Security (Senasp), Mário Sarrubbo, highlighted Pará's operational model as a national reference in combating crime through floating bases.
“We are here visiting another base implemented by the Government of Pará, which acts strategically and protects extremely important river routes for Brazil. These are routes for smuggling, drug trafficking, and timber diversion. With these structures, we can inhibit these practices. We reaffirm the support of the Federal Government to enhance the security of the people of Pará, especially the riverside communities that depend on this exceptional watershed,” said Sarrubbo.
The Secretary of Public Security of Pará, Ualame Machado, emphasized that the new base in Abaetetuba will expand patrol coverage and control on one of the main trafficking routes in the region.
“The Federal Government assists us in various operations triggered by the riverine bases, strengthening the State's presence in the rivers. This year, we have already seized more than 10 tons of drugs, surpassing previous years. A large part of this is a direct result of actions at our bases. With the new structure at Furo do Capim, we will be operating in one of the most sensitive points of crime logistics in the region,” highlighted Ualame.
The new Baixo Tocantins Riverine Base is the third delivered by the Government of Pará, with integrated action among public security forces. The structure will be strategically positioned at Furo do Capim, in Abaetetuba, an area considered a critical point for the flow of drugs and other criminal practices destined for other regions of the country and even abroad.
The objective is to permanently and coordinatedly increase oversight, promoting more security for the riverside population and making it difficult for criminal organizations operating along the river routes.
Other bases in operation in Pará
Currently, the State of Pará already has two riverine bases in operation: the first was installed in the district of Antônio Lemos, in the municipality of Breves (Marajó region); and the second is at the Estreito de Óbidos, in Baixo Amazonas. Both have already resulted in significant drug seizures transported by vessels, in addition to the dismantling of criminal networks.
The bases are part of an integrated and territorial security policy, strengthening the State's presence in the most vulnerable areas and promoting direct confrontation against trafficking and other illegal practices in the Amazon region.
