Graesp carries out organ transport for transplantation from Capanema to Belém
The actions of the Air Public Safety Group (Graesp) alongside health institutions contribute to saving lives in the state territory

The Air Public Safety Group (Graesp), linked to the State Secretariat of Public Safety and Social Defense (Segup), carried out another public health action benefiting hospitalized patients awaiting transplantation. The logistics were carried out on Saturday (9), when medical teams retrieved two kidneys and a liver to be transplanted in patients waiting for transplants in Belém.
This initiative is part of the support to the State Secretariat of Public Health (Sespa). An agile work led by the team of pilots from the Air Group and health professionals from Belém and the Regional Public Hospital of Caetés (HRPC) in Capanema.
Segup notes that this is yet another activity to assist public health institutions, where the Air Group teams ensure the logistics of organ transport, explains surgeon Mariana Pereira Maurity. She is part of the organ retrieval team at the Regional Health Center of Capanema.
“These organs were retrieved in Capanema, from there they were transported to attend to patients in Belém. By land, we would not have enough time to use the liver, as it would arrive with a long ischemia time. With helicopter transport, this time is considerably reduced, making the transplant possible,” said the surgeon.
“Considering the territorial size of Pará, Graesp is now readily qualified to meet the demands for aeromedical organ transport. Our estimated response time for this type of service is, on average, one hour, already having an aircraft ready and maintained, so that we can proceed with our mission to any location, considering the distances and demographic dimensions of our Pará. Thus, we encounter no difficulties in saving lives and assisting in other missions that may arise,” pointed out the director of the Air Group, Colonel Armando Gonçalves.
