On World Hepatitis Day - July 28, the General Hospital of Tailândia (HGT) promoted an educational action aimed at users and health professionals of the unit. The program included guidance on prevention and early diagnosis, as well as the offer of rapid tests for the detection of viral hepatitis, HIV, and syphilis. About 120 people participated in the activity, and nearly 50 underwent tests during the morning.

The activity was coordinated by the Humanization Working Group (GTH), with the support of the Hospital Infection Control Service (SCIH) and the Testing and Counseling Center (CTA) of the municipality of Tailândia, in southeastern Pará.

The tests are essential for early diagnosis

The action began at the receptions of the outpatient clinics and the Emergency Room (PA), with a lecture for users and companions. The activity included the participation of members of the GTH and interns working in the hospital unit.

The professionals highlighted the importance of prevention, early diagnosis, and treatment of viral hepatitis. The approach aimed to raise awareness among users and health professionals about the need to keep vaccination records up to date and to undergo periodic examinations, especially in cases of exposure to risk factors.

Strategies - The nurse from SCIH, Elizana Vasconcelos, explained that the offer of rapid tests is an essential strategy in combating hepatitis. “Rapid testing is a fundamental tool for screening silent infections, such as hepatitis. Correct information and easy access to tests are strategies that help in controlling these diseases,” she informed.

The professional also emphasized that by identifying positive cases early, it is possible to start monitoring and treatment appropriately, reducing the risk of complications and transmission to others.

After the lecture, rapid tests were initiated in a consultation room of the PA, with open participation for users and professionals of the unit. The initiative aimed to expand access to diagnosis and strengthen prevention strategies in the hospital environment.

One of the participants was user Rutlene Santos, 24 years old, who was waiting for care in the Emergency Room. For her, the action was important, especially for the opportunity for prevention. “I think this moment is very valid and important because nowadays people need to take better care of themselves. When we don’t take care, we can end up transmitting diseases even to those we love. Whenever I have the opportunity, I take the tests because it’s better to discover any problem early than to leave it for later when it might be too late to treat,” said the user.
