The Metropolitan Polyclinic of Pará, a health unit of the State Government, reached the mark of 290,093 appointments in the first half of 2025. Located in Belém, the diagnostic center reinforces its strategic position in medium complexity outpatient care, contributing to increasing the population's access to the Unified Health System (SUS).

The State Secretary of Health, Ivete Vaz, explains that the services of the unit are fundamental to continue cases referred by primary care, helping to reduce waiting times and providing solutions for the population.

"Operating from Monday to Friday full-time, the Metropolitan Polyclinic has significantly contributed to the decentralization of specialized care in the capital and metropolitan region, alleviating medium and high complexity hospitals. Reaching almost 300 thousand services in 6 months reflects the effort and continuous work of the professionals and managers of the unit, in conjunction with Sespa," noted the head of the department.

Services for treatment and prevention

The balance reveals the diversity and scope of the services offered, highlighting laboratory tests, which totaled 167,582 procedures, essential for diagnosing chronic diseases, monitoring treatments, and prevention.

Specialized medical consultations also represented a significant volume, with 49,294 appointments in areas such as cardiology, endocrinology, gynecology, dermatology, ophthalmology, otorhinolaryngology, neurology, and orthopedics.

Camylla Rocha, the technical director of the unit, highlights the fundamental role in offering specialized consultations, diagnostic exams, and minor procedures, ensuring free and efficient access for the population of Pará.

Care is through the State Regulation System

"Guided by the principles of equity, comprehensiveness, and resoluteness, the unit is organized to offer humanized and high-standard care. With a regulated access system coordinated by the State Regulation System (SER), managed by the State Secretary of Public Health (Sespa), the Polyclinic establishes itself as a reference for two macro-regions, covering 39 municipalities from metropolitan regions I, Tocantins, Marajó I, Marajó II, and Metropolitan III," said the doctor.

This extensive coverage serves a population of nearly four million inhabitants, ensuring essential support for medium and high complexity cases.

Another high-demand service was imaging exams, which reached 64,251 procedures, including ultrasounds, mammograms, CT scans, and X-rays. The technological park of the Polyclinic ensures accuracy in reports and agility in diagnostic flows.

Among the diseases that the unit can diagnose, for example, is cancer. The Polyclinic maintains the capacity and advanced technology to offer laboratory and imaging tests that assist in the investigation of cancers, such as breast, skin, colon, rectum, cervical, and lung cancers, among others.

Multiprofessional team

In the first half, the multiprofessional team of the unit performed 8,529 appointments, covering services in psychology, nutrition, nursing, social assistance, and speech therapy. This integrated approach is a differential of the Polyclinic, especially in cases that require continuous care and complementary therapeutic support.

There were also 437 minor outpatient procedures performed, such as the removal of moles, plastic surgery, cervical and breast biopsies, for example, avoiding overload in hospitals.

Project Cocoon

The unit also hosts the Cocoon Project, aimed at serving transgender individuals. In the first half, the project served 1,366 patients, offering humanized support with a multidisciplinary team, including doctors, psychologists, and other qualified professionals.

The unit is managed by the Social and Environmental Institute of the Amazon (ISSAA), in partnership with Sespa, and integrates the model of Regional Polyclinics implemented by the State Government to ensure greater access and resolution in care for the population.

The Metropolitan Polyclinic provides services to adults and children from Monday to Friday, from 7 am to 6 pm. The unit operates exclusively through state regulation, which means that users must be referred by a municipal health unit — it is not an open-door service.

"All appointments at the Polyclinic are scheduled in advance, with a defined date and time. Follow-ups, as well as scheduling exams and procedures, are carried out by our Relationship Center, which provides three easily accessible electronic channels for users," clarifies Anderson Albuquerque, the executive director of the unit.

Appointments can be made via WhatsApp at (91) 98521.5110 or by email at [email protected]. It is necessary to have identification documents, the SUS card, and proof of residence on hand.
